Despite mediocre and poor ratings, Parenthood managed to escape being cancelled for years. But now, NBC has decided to end the show with season six. Will the ratings rise in the final year or will they drop even lower? Will they regret the decision? Stay tuned.
Parenthood follows the lives of the extended Braverman family in Northern California. The large ensemble cast includes Bonnie Bedelia, Joy Bryant, Tyree Brown, Max Burkholder, Erika Christensen, Lauren Graham, Miles Heizer, Sam Jaeger, Peter Krause, Xolo Mariduena, Craig T. Nelson, Monica Potter, Savannah Paige Rae, Dax Shepard, and Mae Whitman.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/30 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The fifth season of Parenthood averaged a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.98 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like Parenthood TV series? Do you agree with the decision to end the series? Should there be a seventh season or is this the right time to end the show?
Why is it that the shows with the most highly talented actors/actresses, really believable characters, quality storylines are the ones that get cancelled? You are making a terrible mistake and the viewers are the ones that suffer. There are so few quality programs on Tv that most parents relate too. You’ll probably replace it with something stupid, violent or lots of sex. All I know is that good quality Tv should be worth more! Whatever you put in it’s place I won’t be watching. Parenthood is an excellent written show with an equally excellent cast that you believe is a… Read more »
Even though I understand the reason NBC is canceling, poor ratings, this is a quality show that discusses real family issues. From mental illness , cancer, marriage problems, financial and career challenges, to aging, Parenthood hits on all topics. It has been my favorite show since the first episode. If the actors and writers want to continue, I hope the show is renewed. Like someone else said, why do viewers watch zombies, and police dramas but don’t watch Parenthood that is far more realistic. Go figure.
Parenthood is one of the best shows ever We watch it faithfully every week ,. I am absolutely shocked that they are cancelling it, please bring it back!!!!!
I am very sad to see this great show end. Looked forward every week in watching my TV family. The actors and characters they played were wonderful! Everything about this family show was great. I don’t understand why the ratings were low. Maybe NBC should concentrate on what’s good for families to watch instead of just the ratings. I believe you are making a big mistake by ending this show!
PLEASE don’t end the series of Parenthood. It is the only show my husband and I like to watch together, because it is the closest series to real life on tv. We can relate to every aspect of the show and what the characters go through as a family. There is nothing else like it on tv. We absolutely love this show and are very sad to see it end. It covers so many real life situations. Why do all the best shows get canceled. Please reconsider canceling this series with another season.
I can not believe this show is not top rated. I have watched for six seasons and have never watched a show that I did not connect to on an emotional level. The cast is a perfect combination and the story lines are so relevant. It’s so sad it is ending~I don’t understand : (
Please, please, please keep this show in production. We were latecomers and have been catching up on Netflix. Following a show weekly is really tough for busy families so it wasn’t on our radar originally. We have been completely won over by this exceptional program and hope it continues.
One of the few quality shows on TV that knows how to represent issues (adoption, for one) in a realistic way. Sophisticated, smart, real. Have you tested the demograph for those over 50? Such a loss that it’s going off the air.
I am so sad Parenthood is ending. It is so well acted and it’s like watching real life. Is there anything we can do to reverse nbc’s decision?
Love this show and am heartbroken it’s ending. The Braverman’s are a family you want yours to be like. They are real and make mistakes, but are so close. I hate that it’s ending with all the stupid reality tv out there. I have one less thing to watch!
We are so sad this show is ending. Definitely one of the best shows on TV and the only real “family” show. Please reconsider.
I think Parenthood is the best show on tv. The actors are wonderful, all of them. The characters are wonderful, all of them. Each episode is wonderful. I can’t say enough good things about this show. I will never understand why tv viewers enjoy watching murders, drug makers, serial killers, zombies (sorry!) and not a GREAT family show. I just don’t get it. My friends and family who who watch the show, think like I do — it’s the best show in TV!
I pray the show will end with the Bravermans ALL being “Forever Young!” in our hearts.
I am shocked that this show ever had mediocre ratings. It’s my weekly emotional release! Cry every week! Every true family can relate to the Bravermans and their daily ups and downs. Soaps last 20+ years. . Why can’t this?
This is one of our favorite shows. We love the actors and all the storylines. Please reconsider bringing this show back. It’s one of the best on TV. We are so sad to see it end. We want to continuing seeing these families walk through life together.
So sad this show is ending. Definitely one of the best shows on TV and the only real “family” show. There were so many stories left to tell & it looks like it’s being replaced with garbage. Never should have moved it from the Tuesday time slot & put it against Scandal. I may have to boycot NBC.
