Despite mediocre and poor ratings, Parenthood managed to escape being cancelled for years. But now, NBC has decided to end the show with season six. Will the ratings rise in the final year or will they drop even lower? Will they regret the decision? Stay tuned.
Parenthood follows the lives of the extended Braverman family in Northern California. The large ensemble cast includes Bonnie Bedelia, Joy Bryant, Tyree Brown, Max Burkholder, Erika Christensen, Lauren Graham, Miles Heizer, Sam Jaeger, Peter Krause, Xolo Mariduena, Craig T. Nelson, Monica Potter, Savannah Paige Rae, Dax Shepard, and Mae Whitman.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/30 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The fifth season of Parenthood averaged a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.98 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like Parenthood TV series? Do you agree with the decision to end the series? Should there be a seventh season or is this the right time to end the show?
Parenthood was – in my opinion – probably one of the best shows ever on TV. It consistently took you on an emotional roller coaster ride, celebrating achievements and joys, enduring crises and pains, taking you from smiles to tears, and then back again. The characters were real, the situations were believable, and it was easy to relate to both the characters and what was going on in their lives. I’m in my 60’s and have seen a lot of shows come and go over the years. And I watch probably way too much TV. But, this is one I… Read more »
Sorry to see a great show like Parenthood end!!! Do the “Networks” really believe that all the horror, homicide and lame reality shows is what intelligent people want? What happened to our reality of a kinder and gentler world after 9-11? Network shows are not worth watching. They just perpetuate the violence that is plaguing this country. It is a sad and scary commentary about people and television. I think all network channels should cancel themselves.
Bring Parenthood Back!!! …
Of course NBC cancelled Parenthood. It was a very good show with many redeeming social values and true family life experiences. Be assured that if there is a show of Parenthood’s value, it will be cancelled by the network. I have no idea how these rating numbers are determined but I can assure you that they do not reflect the opinion of the general TV viewers. Here again is the decision to cancel a great show on the lame fact that it has low ratings in the 18-49 year old viewing audiance. Again the Baby Boomers are the largest block… Read more »
This show was so Great!!!!! The characters, story lines the acting was so real I got to know the characters so well its like you wanted to be a part of their family. I myself do not have a very close knit family and just seeing one portrayed on television gave me such a wonderful feeling, there are so many families that are not very close anymore so to have a show that really touched peoples heart and soul like they did in the good ol days meant so much. I just have to say the writers on this show… Read more »
Absolutely fell in love from the beginning with this series and would be devastating to end it for many reasons. There is nothing else like it nor could it be compared with all the others.

We have loved Parenthood since the beginning. We’ve never understood why it had a 10:00 time slot. It is a famy show with so many great messages for all age groups. Having known some people with Autism we appreciated the sensitivity with which Aspergers is explained.
The characters were lovable and we will miss them.
Terrific way to end the series with glimpses into the future .
Please give us more shows like this. Tired of all the sex and violence!!
I agree
This was the best show on tv. I am so sorry to see it canceled.
I wish it was still on and wish there were more shows
Like this.
So sad this show is ending…one if the few shows I record each week to watch. Tired of all the “dark” shows that apparently get higher airings. Shows us what’s going wrong in iur world!!
Best show on television. So sad it was cancelled. It seems that quality is simply not valued which is very disheartening.
I agree. There are very few shows that I like anymore, and Parenthood was the main show that I looked forward to every week. One of the best shows on TV for a long time.
I have been hooked on this show since the beginning! I saw myself as a teenager , a sister, a wife and a mother in this show. There is not another show on television like this one. They tackled REAL life situations! I am EXTREMELY disappointed this show was cancelled .
This is such a good show.
I look forward to watching it each week. What will replace another crime show?
