The peacock network recently premiered a new mystery series for the summer called Persons Unknown. Will the series last? Will viewers get answers to their questions or be left hanging?
Persons Unknown revolves around a group of strangers who wake up in a strange hotel and find that they’re in a ghost town and unable to leave. They see security cameras observing them and their unknown captors create mistrust among the group by offering freedom if they hurt the others. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Lee Purcell, Jason Wiles, Andy Greenfield, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Alan Ruck, Kate Lang Johnson, Sean O’Bryan, and Gerald Kyd.
The NBC mystery series debuted on June 7th to very disappointing ratings. The premiere attracted a poor 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.38 million viewers. That represents a distant third place for the timeslot and is an even worse performance than last year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
In week two, the numbers dropped to a 1.2 rating and 3.52 total viewers. Episode three’s ratings dropped even further to a 1.0 in the demo and only 2.87 million viewers. How much lower can the numbers go?
The network is promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and say that all viewer questions will be answered by the end of the 13th episode. There have been talks that if the show is successful, it could return for a second season (like CBS’ Harper’s Island). The series was created with international buyers in mind so if it’s successful in other countries, year two could be forthcoming (ala The Listener). However, with ratings like these, NBC wouldn’t likely have an interest in buying it.
Actually, the peacock network could pull the show off the air before all of the current episodes have even aired. NBC has moved it up to 8pm for the next couple weeks, trying to attract a few more viewers. Hopefully, the network will let all 13 episodes air and allow faithful viewers to see the story reach its conclusion. At this point, a move to Saturday nights or forcing people to watch episodes online wouldn’t come as a surprise.
What do you think? Is Persons Unknown worth watching or would you just cancel it before all the episodes have aired?

I hope Im not forced to watching episodes online. seriously, this show is really great. People need to stop watching trash -vampire stuff… if you know what I mean! They are all over in every network..- This show is worth watching and keeping!
There are very few shows that hold my interest. This has been a fascinating concept and I was terribly disappointed after missing last week’s show that Persons Unknown was not in the schedule last night. Where is it???
Love this series.
Only thing worth watching on TV right now.
Omfg, I seriously can’t believe this, I looked it up and it had a 4 and half a star rating, almost a perfect 5 star rating – a 1.4?! Seriously?! And I freaked out when I thought this show was cancelled, freeeaked, but then I read the bottom and saw they changed the schedule. But wow… how can the ratings how such a big difference?!
If NBC pulls this show without airing all the episodes, I will boycott the network, so help me! I am sick and tired of networks not giving series a chance to build, and I am sick of being pulled in and then, because I’m not part of a huge demographic, being let down by the power brokers pulling the show without resolution. Then they wonder why the cable networks are taking their audience.
I want the show to complete their 13 week schedule.
so, they didn’t air this past saturday and we have to wait for this sat coming up???? hmmmph, i didn’t even hear any announcements it was changing times….
Me neither, no announcements whatsoever. This network! honestly it should take more pride in their current shows instead of worrying about creating new lame ones.
Couldn’t wait to watch it and its moved to Saturday………..the only thing worth watching during the summer.
I look forward to watching Persons Uknown I even record the show so I dont miss it if I cant be home so please dont cancell the show. Monday nights are good for the show!
I love this show! I think more people would like it if they gave it a chance, but most don’t want to try anything new. Hopefully it will make it through because I will be sooo mad i I don’t get to find out what is going on lol.
Please, please, please, don’t cancel Persons Unknown. After each episode, my husband and I can hardly wait for the next one. Where’s your advertising? We were lucky enough to find this show when “24” ended. We have been intrigued every since. Gotta let TV viewers know the show is out there. It very definitely is worth watching! Monday nights won’t be the same. People just don’t know it’s there.
LYNDA, BASED ON THE SUMMER SCHEDULE RIGHT NOW, MY DVR IS FULL OF SHOWS FROM USA, TNT AND A FEW FROM CBS. IT’S NOT LIKE THERE’S REALLY MUCH TO WATCH ANYHOW. EVEN DURING THE REGULAR SEASON NOWADAYS, PROGRAMMING IS POOR AT BEST WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS. AND YOU HAVE TO PRAY AND HOPE MICKEY AND THE PEACOCK DONT CANCEL THEM. CBS SEEMS TO HAVE SOMEONE AT THE HELM WITH A CLUE ANYHOW.
@Lynda – thankfully the show is still on the air! But NBC keeps moving it around to find a spot that viewers will watch it. UGH! If they left it in one spot folks would know where to find it. So check out NBC.com for hours and dates in your area or TVGuide.com and if you can’t find the episodes, try Hulu.com — all are free! We also have a group on Facebook that fans are having fun with on the show. Hope that helps.
MOVED TO SATURDAY NIGHT
Doc and Lucinda, thanks for the update. I will be sure to check for future shows. Makes me wonder, though, what are all the other people watching.
What happened to this show? Please tell me it wasn’t cancelled. I simply must know how this series will end. It gave new meaning to Monday nights.
