As expected, NBC has pulled their low-rated new series, Persons Unknown, from the Monday night line-up. Thankfully they haven’t yanked it off the air completely. They’re just moving it to the Saturday night graveyard.
Persons Unknown revolves around a group of strangers who awaken in a ghost town and are unable to leave. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Lee Purcell, Jason Wiles, Andy Greenfield, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Alan Ruck, Kate Lang Johnson, Sean O’Bryan, and Gerald Kyd.
The TV show has been performing very poorly so July 5th will be its last Monday night airing. Beginning July 17th, it will show up on NBC’s Saturday night schedule instead.
The Visa Gymnastics Championships will preempt the show on August 14th. Otherwise, it looks like Persons Unknown will run uninterrupted and conclude with episode 13 on September 4th. Producers have maintained that the final episode will properly wrap the series.

If by chance NBC pulls the low-rated show off the air before all of the episodes have aired, fans can take solace in the fact that they’re already scheduled to be released on DVD. Right now, the Persons Unknown: Season One set is scheduled for an August 31st release. That date may change now that NBC has altered their primetime schedule.
NBC has promoted Persons Unknown as a mini-series and, since it’s gotten poor ratings, there’s virtually no chance that it will return to the peacock network for another round.
However, the series was initially produced for international buyers and the studios could decide to make another season, presumably with a new mystery and group of people. The decision to call the forthcoming DVD set “season one” and not “the complete series” seems to support that possibility.
What do you think? Will you keep watching Persons Unknown or wait for the DVD release? Would you be interested in a second season?

Hey I love this series, but NBC has made it anything but easy to watch. They keep jerking the time around, And now football season, or should I say pre-season is swallowing up the new time zone on Saturday nights. Help! I really want to see all of the episodes.
This is one show that my 16 year old son and I love to watch together. The developing characters and plot keep us intrigued. I will miss this show at the end of the summer season.
I’ve watched this thing on hulu this whole season. I truly dislike the show, however, apparently I like to torture myself because I want to know what happens at the end of the season because hell, what the hell was the point of the central plot? While I’d like to know the ending of the story, and the point of it all, (because I’m starting to suspect there wasn’t anything really thought out for the end of the story) this show is a bit contrived to say the least. The characters are over blown, over acted, with boring typical roles… Read more »
Love the show! It’s different, suspenseful and entertaining. It’s also the only NBC TV we have watched for years.
I have been looking for the show and found it kept me wondering, similiar to Lost. I will look for more episodes whatever night they air them and hope they finish up the season. It also aired in summer where most people are out so did not have enough time for more viewers.
Phill,
It’s not false advertising if they’re giving you something for free. I’m not sure that you will be “damaged” if they pull the show off the air.
Bob
I would like to remind whoever that at the end of each show we have heard the line “all will be revealed” by the end of the season. Now, if NBC were to pull the show for whatever reason, not only would they be breaking their promise but they also would be opening themselves up to claims of false advertisement.
I recently discovered this show, and I hope it continues. Tonight, I was really intrigued by the crazy Dr. Angela. She was disturbing, freaky, and I didn’t know where the scene would go from there. Love it!
ahg, i have nwver been interested to watch nex episode like i did on this, i hope they can get a second chance on monday. thou even on saturday i will still watch it. it is a great show. i still want to know who is holding them and whre they are. i miss it mh mh mh:(
I really like this show. I would hate to see it cancelled. All my favorite shows are being cancelled, and they are all thought-provoking. However, reality/talent shows are thriving. What does that say? I don’t care who has talent, who can dance, or who is dating who. I would much rather watch a good mystery to ponder over.
I really like this show. I was looking for it on Monday nights also. I never saw any thing saying that it was moving to Sat. night. I will catchup on line then watch on Sat. Sat. nights not a good night in the summer for any one trying to improve rateings. I with it stayed on Mon. night.
This show grabbed my attention from the start, and I have been following it ever since. If I miss it on the night it airs, I will catch it on the computer or on cable. I have been looking for it on Mondays because I didn’t realize it was moved to Saturday, but I can still find the episodes on cable and watch them there. I’m sorry it’s going to be cancelled, because I really enjoyed this one. It’s nice to watch a show about something other than cops or lawyers. I do hope I will be able to see… Read more »
I was hooked on the show since the first show However,NBC keeps jerking the time around and now its moved to a different day!Half of the time it doesnt come on when its advertised!Thats too much to go through to keep up with a show!NBC just lost a viewer!!
While I agree with Heidi about “reality” TV, a show like Persons Unknown was doomed to failure. First of all, it came too soon after the conclusion of Lost (a show I have never seen). Whether justified or not, comparisons were inevitable. In fact, many accuse the show of being too derivative, although most don’t yet know (or care) what the conclusion is. There’s been comparisons with several episodes of The Twilight Zone, and the movies, Saw and Cube. Second, shows with this plot structure can only lose viewership, especially during the Summer. Since one has no access to previous… Read more »
I don’t understand the networks cancelling most of the shows that have any substance or intellectually stimulating, they don’t even give them enough time to catch on. I seldom watch them during their normal air time, I usually watch them either on demand, DVR, or online so that I can pause or rewind if I miss something. I also believe that the worst thing to ever happen to television was the invention of the mind-numbing “reality” shows.
You took the words right out of my mouth, Heidi. I totally agree with everything you said.
