NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
I agree with Phill. I’d also like to see SyFy pick up this series. I think “Persons Unknown” would do much better with that channel. My opinion: I think it’s excellent!
With shows like LOST, Flash Forward, 24, Prison Break and Heroes all off the air, we need something with a little edgy, off the wall type of mystery.
Oh I like that crazy lady Dr. Angela Barragan. I want more!
I’d love to see it continue! It’s a great way to fill the void Lost left
I DON’T USUALLY WATCH MINI-SERIES BUT THIS ON IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN! I WOULD HOPE THERE IS A SECOND SEASON!
Renew. The show I lOve it ,,
It really disappoints me that cerebral shows are the first to be cancelled. If the show doesn’t revolve around police or doctors, it’s cancelled before it’s given a chance. When a show requires the viewer to actually engage their brain, the networks panic! We, as viewers, should demand better quality and variety. This show is creative and unique. I applaud the producers that greenlighted it…but will scorn those that may end up deciding to pull the plug! p.s. If you don’t have enough faith in a show to let it run it’s course in one time slot, than don’t bother… Read more »
Should have done brief recap at beginning so anyone new tuning in would be able to follow. It loses it’s ability of attracting new people because they can not follow what is happening.
I would really like to see Persons Unknown continue. Such a joy to see such well developed characters. My favorites are the Director, Dr. Angela Barragon and the crazed killer. I think both characters are played by the same actress, Joanna Lipari, whom I think is wonderful in both roles. It would be a crying shame if this show does not continue for at least one more season.
YES! Without a doubt! I think people like this kind of stuff…the ending of each episode is a big cliffhanger!
I’d watch a second season for sure.
NBC be real. I watch Persons Unknown for the first time last night after hearing about it from many friends. It was great!!! I loved the acting ability of the insane woman in the cell especially after seeing her in another scene in the show. This showed her diversity!! With acting like that and a great story line how could you not advertise this show. Come on NBC give this great show a chance
I wish the syfy channel would pick up more of these shows that are dropped by the big networks.
I have loved this series and think that the bad time slot is what killed it. I hope they give it another shot. This is the kind of show that if you don’t see it from the beginning you won’t be able to follow it. I missed the first episode but after a few episodes I was caught up. I can’t imagine someone tuning in, in the middle. Come on NBC your prime time line up’s cater to those that like to think. Well, we will excuse “Minute to Win it”.
Persons Unknown is a great show but like all great shows the network gives it a couple weeks then if ratings aren’t immediately up to standard they move the time slot. Which in Persons Unknown case was given the kiss of death time slot of Saturday nights. If the networks would let the first season of a good show that is different then everything else on TV play out and pick up a second season buzz would generate and they would have a hit on their hands. And as bonus we wouldnt have all these mindless reality shows such as… Read more »
