NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
i cant believe that this has been left up in the air as a show i really cant ! there is no way that it was a mini series as it was left open ended ! come on people this was made to carry on and that it should ! i get so fed up with channels doing this kind of thing i really do ! i get so fed up with investing time in something only to have it taken away ! please give a 2nd run if only to give a decent outcome as all good stories should… Read more »
It should be continued as I love the series. It was the first show in a long time I actually made time to watch on a weekly basis.
Bring on part 2 while you still have our interest! 🙂
We loved this story from minute to minute and moment to moment. To leave you hanging at stage two in training on a ship in the middle of the sea is agonizing for both my husband and me. This is getting to be quite the norm for NBC, and CBS to tank some really good shows after season one! I hope a cable show continues this series. This would be good for HBO where they can air the show more than once a week for people that work odd hours and can not sit and wait for a program to… Read more »

This was not the first time NBC has done this to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They did this us with the Event or Flash Forward. I know it was one of those. Cmon finish what you started. They finally put somthing worth watching and cut it.
i just finished watching this show on netflix, cmon! we need another season!!
Season 2 pleaseeeee!
YES! YES! YES! Why is it that the smart shows come and go & we are stuck with crap?! I wasn’t sure about this show for the first couple of episodes but have to say, yeah! I’m liking it!
My friend just recommended this show to me 2 days ago. At first I wasn’t so sure, but i was quickly hooked. I watched the first season in less than 48 hours time and went searching for the second season, only to be disappointed. I am definitely rooting for a season 2. This is an outstanding show with intriguing ideas and characters. I am content with the season 1 ending only if there is more to come. There were too many relationships half formed and ideas set but not fully brought to life for this to be all there will… Read more »
MAKE SEASON TWO ALREADY!! WTF?
I just finished wating the episodes as netflick showed them ( the last episode was not two hours long (I loved this program so much I watched all in a day in a half);however the last episode was not a 2 hour one and while it did show everybody back in the program in varios ways, i did not think of it of being closure to a story but a cliffhanger for more episodes and that the show as all good shows do got prematurely canceled. but to cover that fact they had billed it as a “mini series” And… Read more »

Great show! I watched all the episodes back when they were still showing on TV, and I have been patiently waiting for a second season ever since! Phenomenal series that calls into question basic human morality.
