The CW sitcom Reba, starring country-singing star Reba McEntire, is currently in its sixth season — though barely. The show was reportedly going to be cancelled last Spring but was saved at the 11th hour because the network didn’t want to pay a “kill fee” for not following through on a previous agreement.
Because of this, the popular sitcom was picked up for its sixth season but for just 13 episodes. Basically, the network feels that the show doesn’t fit their “desired demographic.” As a result, the new episodes of Reba didn’t debut until other CW shows had failed. When Reba finally did start it’s sixth season on November 19, 2006, it gave the network some great numbers. The sitcom even helped to boost the viewership of Seventh Heaven.
Ever since then, fans of Reba have been hopeful that the CW would realize the value of the show and order nine additional episodes (to complete the season) and to renew the series for a seventh year. It now looks like that’s not going to happen.
At last week’s Television Critics Association tour in Pasadena, CW President Dawn Ostroff reportedly declined to comment on Reba’s future. Later, it was quietly stated that the sitcom was done. Today, sources at TV Guide and MediaWeek are confirming that Reba has indeed been cancelled. There are four episodes left to air and word is that the CW will air the final two together on Sunday, February 18th.
Will there be some acknowledgment of the series ending? Hard to say. These episodes were shot in December when the cast and crew were unsure of the show’s future. Still, based on the experiences of 2006, I’m sure they may have considered they weren’t coming back.
There are lots of Reba fans out there so understandably there are tons of rumors floating around. One source at the CW reportedly said that the CW will indeed order the nine additional episodes soon (very doubtful now). There has also been talk that Lifetime (the cable channel that airs Reba reruns) has expressed interest in airing a Reba spin-off series. The spin-off would supposedly feature young married couple Van & Cheyenne moving into their own house and raising their new baby together. The rest of the Reba cast would appear as guest stars from time to time (and as a presumably smaller show budget would allow).
Is there still a possibility that Reba could be saved? Very doubtful but, like title character Reba Hart, this show is a fighter so you never know. Whatever happens, you can be rest assured, we’ll keep you posted. Stay tuned!
UPDATE: If there were any doubts, on January 26th, CW officially announced that Reba would end on February 18th.
I can not believe this show is cancelled. There is nothing but junk on TV I watch DVD’s most of the time and so enjoy this show. It is funny, clever and a refreshing change in TV programming.
Without the Reba show there is nothing on TV that makes a person laugh. This was such a down to earth show that we will all miss.
The Reba show is the best show ever and my parents are glad that i watch it and not some dumb cartoon but too tell you the truth i like it more
My family loves the Reba show! We watch the show every day on the CW and Lifetime, back to back episodes. We love it that much. We laugh for two hours a day about situations that have happened in our personal life. This is by far the best show ever. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!
I watch everyday all the returns and on sundays, it’s good clean, funny and down right great. please don’t take it off the air. we love this show debbie sanchez
Reba is honestly my second favourite show on the CW (I’m a Gilmore Girls fan, through and through, I can’t help it), and I can’t believe the CW cancelled it. The CW has kept friggen Seventh Heaven on for a million years, and that show sucks so much. SO much. Reba is humourous, intelligent, and heart-warming, and I’ll miss it a lot. I hope the CW comes to regret this decision, because guaranteed with the ratings Reba pulled in, they will. Thank God they’re putting a reality show centered around finding the new Pussycat Doll on the CW instead of… Read more »
My 8 year-old granddaughter wept when it was announced that Reba was cancelled. We didn’t miss a show — the only show without double entrendes, rap music, violence, nor the phrase “Oh, My God!” Reba used “heck, durn, MOron, etc., along with her wonderful country phrases; i.e., “what in the name of dirt and worms are you talkin’ about?” I spit my coffee all over the table. CW is just dumping shows in order to pull the old numbers game — $$$$$. Then they go bankrupt, grab all they can, and run like rats. Shame on you, CW. You aren’t… Read more »
I have been watching REBA since the beginning, and i am heart broken that you have canceled the show. It’s one of the best family shows since the GOLDEN GIRLS. My whole family is heart broken. A spin off would not be a good idea, because BARBAR JEAN
and REBA made the show, everyone eles is important to the show, but those two were one of a kind.
WILL SADLY BE MISSED BY THOUSANDS.

My husband and I just recently found the series. We can’t believe it has been on for so many years and we did not see it. Please don’t cancel now!!!!!!
I am very sad that Reba has been cancelled. This is the only show that my son and I can enjoy together. We just started watching the show this year, we found it while flipping thru channels. It made us laugh right away, we were instant fans. We have since watched seasons 1-4 on dvd. I will NEVER watch the CW channel again!
My family loves the Reba show! Daily we watch the Reba show on the CW and Lifetime, back to back episodes. We love it that much! I hate it that they moved the show to Sunday, for we are in choir at our church and I have to record it to get to watch it! Please move it to another station so we can continue to watch! This show reminds me of my life – it is so similar! I love laughing for two hours a day about familiar situations that have happened in my personal life with my ex… Read more »
No longer a CW watcher. Got rid of Reba – we got rid of CW.
OMG i reallyyy wantedd Reba to stayy onn but nooo! I guess the CW doenst like shows that are good and fun for the whole familyy to watch!! Theyy are like soo stupid for cancling like the best show on T.V.!! <3
Well there you go folks! As the Music Industry falls apart, so does the content section of viewing pleasure for our family’s. I looked forward to Reba every week with my family, quality worth watching!!! Our music industry is on the brink and this goes to show there’s no reason to ever watch CW again. Boycott yes! How sad that true talent is being disgarded and replaced by sickening examples from both industries for our kids.
I just have to shake my head and pray WB or someone will pick up the torch for THE HARTS.
I can not belive Reba is going off the air. It has helped me through a divorce. It is the one show my sons and I watch together and laugh. It sure bets the rest of the junk on the CW. Did they cancel it because it was not african american enough? Was it to white american for them. It seems the CW only wants black shows with no moral story.
