It’s been a bumpy ride for Reba fans. The Reba McEntire series was The WB’s highest-rated sitcom for virtually all of its five seasons. You would think that high ratings would ensure that the show would continue on the CW. Not so.
The sitcom had received a two-year commitment from The WB network at the end of its fourth season so, last spring, fans believed their show was safe for an upcoming season six. In fact, when the UPN/WB merger was announced earlier this year, it was said that CBS’ leader Les Moonves sent word that the new CW network would honor the rest of the two-year commitment. The Reba cast and crew wrapped their shooting according to schedule on March 14, 2006.
A few weeks later, CW executives reportedly told 20th Century Fox TV (who produces the show) that they wanted to cancel the deal because the show didn’t attract the new CW’s “desired demographic.” As a result, the Reba fifth season finale, which was originally shot as a cliffhanger (Van and Cheyenne possibly breaking up), was re-edited to include a sentimental montage of images from the show’s run.
CW is said to have changed their mind about the cancellation when they realized they’d have to pay an eight-figure “kill fee” to 20th Century Fox TV. CW instead gave Reba a 13 episode renewal order but didn’t put the sitcom on the Fall 2006 schedule. Would they air?
Well, the wait is finally over. The sixth season of Reba will debut at 7pm on Sunday, November 19th with two new episodes. The following week, a Reba rerun will air at 7pm and a new episode will follow at 7:30pm.
Great news but keep in mind that the CW only committed to purchasing 13 episodes. If the ratings are good enough, it’s said that an order for nine additional episodes will be given — bringing the order to a full season of 22. The additional episodes would start airing by February 2007.
Production on the 13 episodes will be completed in early December so presumably the decision would have to be made soon if the 13th episode was to include any kind of closure for the series. Will that happen in time? Hard to say but, based on the sitcom’s rocky road last Spring, I’m guessing the Reba producers may have a few contingency plans up their sleeves. We’ll keep you posted so, stay tuned!
i have watched the Reba show for four seasons and just love it. i watch all the reruns on any channel that airs them therefore i am watching 4 episodes of reba daily. i was so upset when the show got cancelled and now that it is on again i hope that the CW network will keep it on for all of us Reba fans.
I hope there is a new season of Reba comeing on soon. The show reminds me of my youth, and my family. It is truly a breath of fresh air, rising above all the junk that’s out there. I watch the reruns daily now. I’m 66 years old, and find it to be funny and true to life.
I absolutely love the new Reba shows and all of the re-runs as well. Very well acted, funny, sweet–a good show for all generations. KEEP “REBA” ON THE AIR!
Thanks!
Reba is one of the very few shows we watch, and we watch rerun after rerun! The script is funny without slap stick and the entire cast is extremely good. I really hate to see the show dropped because of some ‘upper-management’ decision. Compared to the current trash programming on TV, Reba is a five-star plus!
I have five children. We enjoy sitting down together and watching Reba every day. My children are 4,5,8,13,and 14. This family comedy needs to stay on the air. This is a show that promotes the importance of family. Most TV shows do not build around family unity. This is a show that I actually feel good about letting my kids watch. Please keep Reba on the air.
if she would bring Park Overall back and have Carrie Underwood as a guest star… her ratings would skyrocket.
Park Overall is 10x better than BJ
Reba is a creative, well written, funny show. It would be a shame if the CW took it off the air! Keep Reba On!!
Why?!? Why does every GOOD family show get cancelled? I Love Reba and the whole cast. Please don’t take away a good thing!
I love Reba it is really one of the best sitcoms out their right now, i was so glad to hear they are keeping it on for a while longer. Hope to see a few more seasons of it!!!
I will be very sad if Reba goes off the air.
She makes me laugh and she makes people happy.
He smile can light up a room. The characters on the show seem like a real family.
Im a loyal fan.
Marian Hill
I too came across the Reba show…and was hooked right at that moment. I love her show, and the other cast members are the best! My, husband also got hooked! We never miss it….we watch it for the first hour…..then watch the show after hers for an hour then another hour of Reba…..she is a wonderful Singer, and actress……I will be very upset if they cancel her show. This is a show that the whole family can watch…..and laugh together…..
I just recently started watching Reba since I work on Friday nights so Sunday is great for me. And I’ve been watching the repeats and, after Christmas, will be starting my collection of the Season DVD’s so that I can see it from the beginning. It is such a cute show and certainly makes me laugh. I would hate to see them take it off the air.
We love Reba and would hate to see it end. The best show on TV!!
This show is one of the best I have seen in a long time. I am glad that Lifetime airs the repeats. Reba is an excellent actress as all the rest are. Barbara Jean is annoying but u still end of loving her. Maybe lifetime can pick up the show it would be a waste to have such a show cancelled when it keeps us laughing. I hope they stay on the air. Keep up the good work…..
I LOVE REBA!! I WATCH ALL THE REPEATS TOO! MY CHILDREN AND I WATCH THIS PROGRAM TOGETHER AND LOOK FORWARD TO IT!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DONT CANCEL OUR FAMILY TIME! WE TALK ABOUT THE MORAL ISSUES INVOLVED AS WELL. WHAT A SHOW!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE REBA!!!!
