It’s been a bumpy ride for Reba fans. The Reba McEntire series was The WB’s highest-rated sitcom for virtually all of its five seasons. You would think that high ratings would ensure that the show would continue on the CW. Not so.
The sitcom had received a two-year commitment from The WB network at the end of its fourth season so, last spring, fans believed their show was safe for an upcoming season six. In fact, when the UPN/WB merger was announced earlier this year, it was said that CBS’ leader Les Moonves sent word that the new CW network would honor the rest of the two-year commitment. The Reba cast and crew wrapped their shooting according to schedule on March 14, 2006.
A few weeks later, CW executives reportedly told 20th Century Fox TV (who produces the show) that they wanted to cancel the deal because the show didn’t attract the new CW’s “desired demographic.” As a result, the Reba fifth season finale, which was originally shot as a cliffhanger (Van and Cheyenne possibly breaking up), was re-edited to include a sentimental montage of images from the show’s run.
CW is said to have changed their mind about the cancellation when they realized they’d have to pay an eight-figure “kill fee” to 20th Century Fox TV. CW instead gave Reba a 13 episode renewal order but didn’t put the sitcom on the Fall 2006 schedule. Would they air?
Well, the wait is finally over. The sixth season of Reba will debut at 7pm on Sunday, November 19th with two new episodes. The following week, a Reba rerun will air at 7pm and a new episode will follow at 7:30pm.
Great news but keep in mind that the CW only committed to purchasing 13 episodes. If the ratings are good enough, it’s said that an order for nine additional episodes will be given — bringing the order to a full season of 22. The additional episodes would start airing by February 2007.
Production on the 13 episodes will be completed in early December so presumably the decision would have to be made soon if the 13th episode was to include any kind of closure for the series. Will that happen in time? Hard to say but, based on the sitcom’s rocky road last Spring, I’m guessing the Reba producers may have a few contingency plans up their sleeves. We’ll keep you posted so, stay tuned!
I LOVE this show. It’s absolutely HILARIOUS! I really hope to see more episodes soon!
Glad to here that Reba’s show is returning. It’s one of the best shows on TV, the entire casts works so well together.
The episode where Cheyenne has the baby: Where can I get the song, “Angels Lullaby” that Reba sang to the baby?
Love it!!!
I started watching Reba in the fall, all the reruns. I haven’t enjoyed a show or laughed as much in years. It deplicts the common household which so many can relate to. Some other channel needs to pick up where the WB left off. My whole family (ages 13-52)watch and enjoy this show. The chemistry between the actors/actresses is superb. This is the type of show that needs to be on prime time. Light, familyfared, believeable and makes you laugh. If theres a channel out there who wants to soar with ratings- pick up REBA.Everyone I talk to feels the… Read more »
I think the Reba show is the last one that should be canceled, love it!
Also what is Reba’s sister, Susi doing now?
They do not make shows like Reba anymore. I am very dissapointed in the nework. This is good TV. Most shows have smart mouth kids with parents who don’t have a clue. I wonder if this show was not based in the south would it still be on.
Cj

I absolutely LOVE this show!!!! PLEASE do NOT cancel it! It is one of the few clean shows left on TV! It is fun, offers words of wisdom/lesson(s) and is just plain funny! B.J. is absolutely HYSTERICAL – her interactions w/Mrs.H crack me up & I laugh the entire show! The cast are ALL terrific – I love Van too! So please DO NOT cancel this show….it’s the BEST!
I am 81 years old and live in an assisted living facility and I may not be in the demographic they’re looking for but I along with my fellow residents, my daughter and my granddaughters all love this show and we’re standing up, stomping and screaming because at this date it’s cancelled. Please don’t
My family and I just started watching Reba reruns, for the first time. We didn’t even know the show existed. We love it! We DVR the reruns and watch them everyday. We just found out that the show is cancelled, and we can’t believe it. We finally found a show that we all like (ages 9 to 46!) Another network should pick it up. Please.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE REBA. My family would be devastated if it goes off the air. My entire family watches it together. We DVR all the episodes are constantly watching them over and over again. It is a wonderful family show. Maybe another station can pick it up. It would be a big loss if this goes off the air 🙁
I am so glad they renewed Reba for the few episodes. I ove the show.
We love reba it is such and inspiratial show. I REALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WOULD TAKE A GOOD CLEAN SHOW OFF. HOWEVER, I GUESS THE SHOWS THAT MAKE MONEY ARE THE ONES WITH ALOT OF CUSING, DIEING, MURDER, AND STUPIED SHOWS. PLEASE BRING BACK REBA!!!!!!!!!!!
Please put Reba back on!! I love the cast, the show and everything about it, it is REAL AMERICA and it’s better than almost all shows on TV. I am so glad we do have 2 hours of re-runs a day, but I would love to see new episodes. What is wrong with the producers? Are they “MOORONS”!!!! COME BACK REBA!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!
