Tonight marks the last episode of Ringer’s first season — and likely of the TV series as well. Despite being The CW’s most anticipated new TV show of 2011-12, the series hasn’t been able to hold onto its audience.
Ringer revolves around a former exotic dancer named Bridget (Sarah Michelle Gellar) who, after being the sole witness to a professional hit, reunites with her wealthy estranged twin, Siobhan. When Siobhan disappears, Bridget assumes her identity and discovers that her sister’s complicated life rivals her own. The show also features the talents of Nestor Carbonell, Mike Colter, Ioan Gruffudd, Zoey Deutch, Tara Summers, and Kristoffer Polaha).
The series debuted to strong numbers (by CW standards anyway) with a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million total viewers. That was pretty close to being on par with the smallest network’s most popular show, The Vampire Diaries.

Unfortunately, the second episode of Ringer lost 25% in the demo and by the fourth installment, the series lost another 33%. Not good. It didn’t help that the network put the struggling series on hiatus for two months.
The ratings have fluctuated somewhat over the course of the season but have been trending downward overall. The most recent episodes of Ringer have been bringing in a 0.4 demo rating and just over a million total viewers. Even by The CW’s standards, those are very bad numbers.
While The CW gets revenue from other areas besides broadcast advertising — big deals from Netflix and Hulu, for example — the network still has to make choices about what to cancel and what to renew. If viewership of Ringer had been on the rise, it would have a chance at being renewed. As it stands now, it looks certain that tonight’s episode will be the last one.
But what do you think? Is it time for Ringer to be cancelled or should there be a second season?

Please don’t cancel this show – the final left with such a cliff hanger waiting for season two
I can’t believe that anyone at the CW thinks Ringer is less watchable than Gossip Girl, or a number of other CW series. At least Ringer has some fairly exciting, and relatively fresh story lines. GG was good in the first few seasons, but now most of the plots just feel “recycled”, and it also seems like the minutiae of the characters’ lives is too prominent – probably because the writers can’t come up with any major new plot twists. We started watching that group when they were in H.School, now they are out of college. Will it eventually be… Read more »
From Australia also, I love this show!!
Renew!!!
Keep it!!!!!!!!!
It’s a great show. It would be a shame if it was cancelled. It’s one of those shows that, if you watched it, gets better and better. A second season should prove worthwhile. Although, I have to say, it really looks like a series that needs to come to a conclusion and have a definite ending. With any luck, it gets one more season — but it should try to wrap it up.
I DVR one show every week and that is Ringer. I have been hooked since the second episode, missed the first one. )-: It is the one show that isn’t reality, that is different from all others. It isn’t fantasy, it isn’t another detective, supernatural, or hospital show. I think it is great that they had such a unique idea and such wonderful writers. The show isn’t predictable like almost EVERY other show on TV. Each week I am left waiting in excitement for the next episode. If the CW has to cancel one show, The Hart of Dixie is… Read more »

Ringer is a great show. Make sure I’m home to watch it. Please DO NOT cancel!!! It is one of the few shows that makes you think, because you have to keep up with who is who. And you never know whats going to happen next. Always a surprise.
Cancelling Ringer would be a big mistake. It has wonderful characters and a suspenseful storyline.
From Connecticut Don’t cancel the series yet, there are too many interesting and tangled webs to unwind. I would love to see if Siobhan and Bridget ever settle their differences and one of them reunites with Andrew
