At the recent Television Critics Association press tour, ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee reflected on cancelled mini-series The Assets.
He said that he was proud of The Assets creatively and as a business model, even though the ratings were a disappointment. “That one was actually a great experiment [with our news division] and we’re going to continue with that experiment even though the show didn’t work.”
Lee noted that, “In the end, what we need do as we test out different pieces [of programming] is to find ones that work both financially and creatively so that we can have programming the whole year-round.”
The network president also said that the remaining episodes of The Assets would be made available at some point in the future — either on the broadcast schedule or via one of ABC’s digital platforms like ABC.com.
What do you think? Are you open to watching limited series — even though the network may still pull them early? Would you like to see the rest of The Assets?
Of course I want to see the rest of this excellent show. I’m probably going to buy the DVD.
I just saw the Assets episode that was presented last Saturday and it was great. I love this TV program. I have no idea why someone would not like it.
Liked the series. I did not realize til now it had been cancelled. A big disappointment. Just watched the one that was on Saturday. Very disappointed when I checked internet to find it was cancelled. I enjoyed it and hopefully will get to see the other episodes. If I had known it was to be cancelled so quickly I would not have even watched it. Tired of others making these decisions, because for some reason viewing was low. Maybe there was a reason. It sure was not the plot, acting. Keep your ideas of half showing series and you won’t find… Read more »
I loved the first 2 episodes! I’m thrilled they’re bringing it back! I only wish a) they’d given it more than 2 weeks to catch on and b) it was for more than the 6 remaining episodes!! The acting is great and the story is captivating!!
I also agree with prior comments… There’s a limit to my desire to know everything about irresponsible, loud mouthed people!!
Let’s hope the networks don’t give up on developing these good series! Cheers to ABC for at least airing the final episodes at all! I hoped… Kept it on my DVR record list hoping…
A resounding YES! I read recently that ABC intends to broadcast the unaired episodes on Saturdays starting 21 June 2014. It’s not unreasonable to assume that ABC’s decision to air/re-air “Assets” is influenced to some degree by recent events in the Ukraine and Putin’s apparent Phoenix fixation vis-à-vis the old Soviet Union. I would hope they would replace one of the “reality” shows currently on the schedule: ‘Bet On The Baby’ and ‘Sing Your Face Off’. So-called reality shows are in a viewing category I like to call “everybody loves a train wreck, as long as they’re not one of… Read more »
I just read that The Assets is coming back on Jun e 21st. Is this true anyone???? If so, does anyone know if they are going to start it over, or just air the last six episodes? I would really hope that they could do a 2 hour start, and show the 2 episodes already aired so we can catch back up. Then broadcast the remaining episodes. This way anyone who missed the first 2 can also see what they missed. This is an excellent show, so anyone who missed it the first time around most definitely doesn’t want to… Read more »
Adam, read the following article.
http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/the-assets-cancelled-abc-tv-show-returns-june-21st-32699/
It looks like they are only going to air the last 6 episodes. We are on our own to find the first 2 to rewatch. Go to hulu.com as the article suggests. Yesterday I found them on abc.com. Each episode at abc.com also includes a very informative summary for reading. I have Time Warner Cable and just checked On Demand for ABC. The first 2 episodes are there as well. This makes me happy because I don’t like to watch TV on my computer.
The first two episodes are on the ABC app (and likely website).
According to Trakt.tv there are Assets episodes set to air on June 21st at 12:00 am, beginning with episode 3
It was great las Saturday…
Yes! Please let us see all of the episodes with sufficient warning so we won’t miss them!!!!
I don’t know how viewers who watch a show can be left in the lurch because they watched a tv show. Is their loyalty so worthless that they can be “ditched” for reasons for which they have no control?
Yes! Please make the rest of the episodes available to view soon?! I was very disappointed that the show was pulled so abruptly. Paul Rhys is a fine actor, and I think it’s a shame that he has never manged to break through to an American audience.Besides, the action of the show was just staring to rise! Please repeat it on a different night, perhaps? Please??
Great comments, Adam!
Since I have forgotten what happened in the first 2 episodes of “The Assets” I’ll need to see those again as well when they finally release the remaining 6 for our viewing pleasure.
I am concerned that I won’t find out when and how to view this mini-series when it is finally released by ABC.
Sue
Another comment. Get rid of some of the STUPIS SITCOMS, SNF SURVIVOR SHOWS, AS WELL AS REALITY SHOWS. Who cares of a man dates 10 different women to find one that he might consider to marry, or if a couple runs around naked in the woods together. Auctioning storage sheds is dumb also. But “The assets” is very interesting and historical if it is true, if not true its still something very good to watch
I do agree 100% with the above comments.
I agree wholeheartedly. BRING IT BACK. Adam hit on the nose. When you get a new show you don’t give it a chance. Like Adam said, put it in a time slot that is not competing with very popular shows. :ike maybe Thursday when the onl;y good show is on CBS (Elementary)
YES!! I want The Assets to be brought back. You exec’s finally put a show on with some substance, and then pull it after 2 weeks without giving it a chance. How about trying another time slot first? If I remember correctly, you had it on 10pm on Tuesday nights. You putting it up against 2 top shows in Person of Interest and Sons of Anarchy. The idiot who suggested that should be fired!! In addition , you guys need to wake up!! We are now in the age of DVR’s, and Hulu where people can either tape the show… Read more »
I am one among the millions who DVR TV series and watch them at my own leisure. I follow so many, that I created a spreadsheet to keep track of each one of them. My sentiments exactly!
I loved The Assets and was very disappointed it was cancelled. Theres a lot of junk on TV.
Its rare to see things of substance and this had it. Too bad it wasnt given more time for people to catch up. I would definitely buy a DVD if made available.
Definitely, I would like to watch the complete series on ABC On Demand or ABC.com
I was really enjoying the show after I saw the first episode. Why take it off the air. It was really interesting and I would like to see the entire series from the start. Please return the series
Yes!!! I would like to see it back. Please
As a history geek, I would really like to see the series in its entirety, hopefully in the not too distant future.
