Several weeks ago, FOX unveiled their latest cop drama called The Chicago Code. The series has the enviable position of following the network’s popular House series. How have the ratings been? Strong enough to get it renewed or will it be cancelled?
The Chicago Code follows officers of the Chicago Police Department as they fight crime while also trying to expose political corruption within the city. Veteran Chicago Police Detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads the special unit fighting against the corruption. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to a decent 2.4 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo which isn’t very good but isn’t horrible either. Since then, the ratings have been slowly eroding. The last three original episodes have registered a 1.8 in the demo with an average of 6.16 million viewers. That’s not very good and puts the series squarely “on the bubble.” It could be easily renewed or cancelled.
FOX has three shows that are basically in the same boat — Chicago Code, Lie to Me, and Human Target.
Of the three, Human Target seems the most likely to be cancelled. It got the lowest ratings and the network already renewed it once in hopes that the numbers would improve. They didn’t. It’s also been off the air for months.
Whether they decide to renew Chicago Code and/or Lie to Me will likely have a lot to do with how much faith the execs have in their pilots for the new season. Depending on available timeslots, they could choose to renew one, both, or neither.
As a result, Chicago Code’s ratings over the next couple weeks will likely play a big role in the decision to cancel or renew the show. Including tonight’s episode, the series only has two airings before the FOX schedule is unveiled for 2011-12 on Monday, May 16th. (You can watch this list to stay updated on what’s renewed or cancelled.)
What do you think? Does Chicago Code deserve to be cancelled or renewed for season two?

BEST SHOW ON TV BY FAR! I AM ORIGINALLY FROM CHICAGO AND LOVE THE WAY ITS SHOT ON LOCATION> PLEASE KEEP IT.
I would strongly recommend that The Chicago Code be renewed for a second season. The acting is terrific, especially on the part of Delroy Lindo (who is superb in whatever he does), Jason Clarke and Jennifer Beals. The scripts are very well thought out and maintain audience interest. Delroy Lindo’s character is compelling and lends a very interesting side to the show with its focus on the machinations of big city politics. I believe this show is a an excellent crime drama and very much hope to see it in Fox’s line-up for next season.

I love the relationships on this show. While the romantic pairings definitely need some work, the partner banter is great. The plot continues to evolve and the backstories on the characters are well thought out. Finally some realism on tv with characters that view themselves as heroes even as they commit immoral acts. Please keep The Chicago Code coming!
Chicago Code has some of the best writing and characters on television. It should definitely be renewed and allowed to develop further.
Keep it. Two and a half men won’t be back anytime soon. This should dominate the hour.
Please don’t cancel Chicago code it’s a great show I think it deserves a chance
It’s a crime drama series set in Chicago and jb plays her part as superintendent teresa Colvin real well her and jerak are great together,
the best cop show since nypd blue. GREAT! casting and a lot to offer, a must tv watch.
Please renew lie to me, human target and chicago code. Love them all!!
I liked the first episode and felt it went south for the next several weeks-however, it seems to be doing a nice job of balancing the character development with the overall plot. I would like to see it renewed-but only if they did away with the Gibbons story line…that is old and in the way of the bigger story of how the SUper. is working to fight crime and rebuild her department.
If it came down to Lie To Me or Chicago COde right now I would lean toward Lie To Me unless the repeat of Gibbons goes away.
This is a great series. Hope this will be removed. Like Justified or Rescue Me, if folks stay with it they will be rewarded
I certainly hope this show is renewed. It is one of the best and well written series and gives us a good look at Chicago (a much neglected town in TVland). I love this show
Please renew–Love the show–Believable — Very good story line
KEEP IT…this is the only show with real Chicago roots and culture mixed in, plus good acting and writing so far, they could take this show a lot of different places if they can build a following.
LOVE the show! I am a mom of two and its the only show I keep up with every week. Husband and I always look forward to the next episode. Please keep it going! Also def. love Lie to Me as well. Between the two alternating, Fox has me glued to Monday nights.
Awesome show!!! Please renew it.
