Bones has been a quiet hit for FOX but the same can’t be said for its spin-off, The Finder. FOX has now cancelled the low-rated series after one season.
The Finder is a procedural series that revolves around a man (Geoff Stults) with the extraordinary ability to help people find the unfindable. Other castmembers include Maddie Hasson, Mercedes Masohn, and Michael Clarke Duncan.
The spin-off debuted on January 12th to a disappointing 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.50 million total viewers. It was fourth in its Thursday night timeslot right out of the gate and lost nearly 30% of the all-important demo from its compatible lead-in, Bones. This was not a good start.

Things picked up a bit in the following weeks, thanks in large part to the show having FOX’s blockbuster American Idol as a lead-in. Still, the numbers weren’t as high as they should have been.
After seven weeks on the air, FOX put Finder on hiatus and then moved it to Friday nights, giving its Thursday timeslot to Touch. If The Finder could maintain a healthy percentage of its viewers after the switch, it would likely garner a renewal.
But that didn’t happen and Finder’s numbers dropped like a rock. In its first Friday airing, the freshman series attracted a 1.1 demo rating — an episode-to-episode loss of 53% — with just 4.03 million viewers. The numbers for future episodes fluctuated a bit but didn’t really get any more encouraging. The network could do just as well or better by running cheaper reality programming.
The season finale of The Finder is set to air this Friday night and there won’t be any episodes after that. Hopefully the producers saw the writing on the wall early enough and won’t leave viewers hanging with any major unresolved storylines.
What do you think? What went wrong with this show? Why do you think The Finder failed to attract a bigger audience? Was cancelling the series the right decision? How would you have fixed it?
really enjoy The Finder …found it on Netflix only because there is nothing much to watch on tv anymore ….Thank you cast and crew great job…b
I miss The Finder and really enjoyed it. It was great to have a show that was interesting but not gruesome.
My girlfriend and I just watched half the season in one week, and we absolutely love it. Who could not love this series! Great writing, acting and scenery. Clearly the show failed because viewers are stupid. Seriously, I …we are disappointed. We vote for more seasons.
Y’all left the final season wide open left a lot of people wanting too see season too then y’all cancelled the show 97% of the votes we’re too no the show should not be cancelled so why cancel it because of low rating so many more people watch it now because the can actually watch I’ve watched season 1 just about 100 times any time I got free time I watch an episode it’s that good so PLEASE MAKE A SEASON 2 PLEASE
Love this show ….. never knew about it till Netflix??? Really bummed only one season
Have to blame ratings or lack of on network…. not enough promoting/advertising to the right demographics
I’m really sad to see this gone it was a good show it was funny it was family it’s good to laugh never knew about it until I saw it on Netflix
Great writing, directing, producing & editing. Now factor in the actors & it was brought to life. What a wonderful series. Just because it was cancelled didn’t mean we weren’t watching in the millions. I don’t believe low ratings. who knows what really goes on at the networks. I loved this show sad there was only one season.
Just found this series and binged watched it. Since Michael Clarke Duncan passed away it obviously could not be brought back exactly as it was. but Netflix should definitely try to do SOMETHING to continue it.
Am almost finished watching it on NetFlix. So sorry there was only one season to the series.
very good series
This was my new favorite show. Finding out it was cancelled was heart breaking.
I want it back!!!! I love this tv show, it is absolutely fantastic!! I would pay to even see a movie of this sorts. And how it combines with bones!! That is awesome!!!
Never leave reviews, but this show is awesome. This is the type of show that we need more of, similar to pysch, the good guys, white collar, burn notice…. unique characters, funny (not in the new style of crude or rude, but the situational type), an interesting way at solving a problem or in this instance finding something. Netflix is a great platform to bring shows like this out and it would go quite well in there current line up. Just look at the number of people who want more of this show, myself included.
I don’t have tv a have Netflix and I’m sure there are many more people like me… So there are way more viewers than what was said and also you left us viewers hanging on the last episode. Make more seasons please! I’m hooked on the show and NEED to know what will happen to Willa and Walter. Please make more seasons
Show is great. Sad.
