Bones has been a quiet hit for FOX but the same can’t be said for its spin-off, The Finder. FOX has now cancelled the low-rated series after one season.
The Finder is a procedural series that revolves around a man (Geoff Stults) with the extraordinary ability to help people find the unfindable. Other castmembers include Maddie Hasson, Mercedes Masohn, and Michael Clarke Duncan.
The spin-off debuted on January 12th to a disappointing 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.50 million total viewers. It was fourth in its Thursday night timeslot right out of the gate and lost nearly 30% of the all-important demo from its compatible lead-in, Bones. This was not a good start.

Things picked up a bit in the following weeks, thanks in large part to the show having FOX’s blockbuster American Idol as a lead-in. Still, the numbers weren’t as high as they should have been.
After seven weeks on the air, FOX put Finder on hiatus and then moved it to Friday nights, giving its Thursday timeslot to Touch. If The Finder could maintain a healthy percentage of its viewers after the switch, it would likely garner a renewal.
But that didn’t happen and Finder’s numbers dropped like a rock. In its first Friday airing, the freshman series attracted a 1.1 demo rating — an episode-to-episode loss of 53% — with just 4.03 million viewers. The numbers for future episodes fluctuated a bit but didn’t really get any more encouraging. The network could do just as well or better by running cheaper reality programming.
The season finale of The Finder is set to air this Friday night and there won’t be any episodes after that. Hopefully the producers saw the writing on the wall early enough and won’t leave viewers hanging with any major unresolved storylines.
What do you think? What went wrong with this show? Why do you think The Finder failed to attract a bigger audience? Was cancelling the series the right decision? How would you have fixed it?
So, 1,000 polled and 94% think Fox made a mistake. THAT should tell you something. Good stories, great characters, I guess unless it is sports or a freakin cartoon…no luck with Fox renewing anything decent!
Yeah…I liked it…disappointed that it is cancelled!!
ill probably not watch the fox network again at all unless they bring back this amazing show seems like they are making a really big mistake by cancelling such a god show IDIOTS
This is horrible. The Finder was one of the best new shows on television today. Once again FOX has jumped the gun. They cancelled Family Guy and Futurama, yet those shows are now amazing large hits. Out of all the networks, FOX has the worst track record for cancelling great shows. I do hope that the pleas of the masses do not fall on deaf ears. Please bring The Finder back, or at least give it a series finally.
A pity. I really liked the show. The storylines weren’t great but the characters were and with some better writing this could have really been special. A shame Fox did not give it time to find its legs.
We thought The Finder would be a good replacement for our beloved House…so bummed. Now we have nothing genius…
I loved the show…the characters were all so likable, the stories very entertaining. I think FOX gave the show a death sentence when the show was put on hiatus, then moved to Friday nights.
Mother F***! Why! This is the only show that I looked Foward to watching! And here I was, literally yesterday, saying that Fox is good at not canceling good shows… Shame on you Fox! Shame on You! Canceling a show that is different, refreshing, and just plain fun to watch!
Lisa has it right! People if you want reality, look at your life, it’s full of reality!
The last show was certainly left everyone hanging!!! I loved the show and am very disappointed that it is not returning. I hope they change there minds!
I love this show i wish there were a way to bring it back
The finder was my favorit show on TV. It was smart and funny.
I love this show!! You are making a huge mistake! It has such great humor.
I was so excited when I saw that the Finder was going to be a show after seeing it on Bones. It is so different from everything else and I looked forward to seeing it. I am so dissapointed that another great show gets lost in the t.v. “reality world” I guess it is better to follow bimbos on the beach than give us a show that isn’t about either cops and robbers or doctors
Big mistake! The Finder is an awesome show. I hope another network picks it up!!!
Yea, too bad fantastic shows end up on Fox and then are trashed. What a shame. Every character and member of the cast are phenomenal, the end was wonderfully lyrical. I can still immagine a next season, may be some one else will.
