Last week, FOX gave viewers a sneak preview of one of their new series — The Good Guys. The TV show is set for a summer run and already has a spot on the network’s fall schedule. Will it last that long?
The Good Guys is an action comedy that pairs a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford) with a young, by-the-book detective (Colin Hanks). Others in the series include Jenny Wade, Diana-Maria Riva, Jennifer Besser, Kimberly Lynn Campbell, Kennith Edwards, Nathan Fane, and Arthur Wooldridge.
Last Wednesday’s premiere attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. That put the TV show’s debut in fourth place in total viewership and tied for third in the coveted demographic with NBC’s Minute to Win It.

That’s hardly a great start and doesn’t bode well for the series’ future. Ratings typically drop lower for a show’s second episode and Good Guys doesn’t exactly have any to spare.
The network isn’t giving up though and has scheduled extra chances to see the pilot by re-airing it this Friday (May 28th) and again on Monday, May 31st. The Good Guys’ regular season will then begin on Monday, June 7th.
Based on the early ratings, one could expect that the series would have a quiet summer run and then be gone. However, FOX had such faith in the series that they gave it a spot on the fall schedule, following Human Target on Friday nights.
Ratings expectations are lower for summers and Friday nights. However, it seems highly unlikely that, unless viewership improves, the show will last beyond the first season.
What do you think? Is The Good Guys worth watching or would you just cancel it now?

ICD can’t even spell so we will take his word on a review? Doubtful.
At any rate this is a top notch series from Matt Nix. With Bradley Whitford at the helm it can’t lose.
But FOX will **** it up (as usual) because at FOX, they are scared of quality programming. Understandible since the last hit they had was the X-Files……
Only stupid people with GED’s will not get this show. Matt Nix does not play to the lowest common moron, his shows are sharp, witty and poignant.
DO NOT continue with this show.
FOX you have brought in some of the most worst pieces of crap I have ever seen.
“Sons of Tucson” -> Malcolm in the middle fail attempt ripoff
“The Good Guys” -> Yet another COP show
Try something NEW and exciting.
The only good shows Ive seen from FOX are the ones they have stupidly cancelled.
This show has no future or promise.
The pilot was just horrible.
*cough cough* firefly
its a good show!! putting it on friday nights is a dumb idea, fox is better off moving both shows from fri. and showing movies or re-runs, any show is gonna fail on fridays, the good guys is a pretty good show, give it a good nite and it will perfrom… i hope ha
I thought this might be interesting, but the promos never showed enough to get me to stop what I was watching and setup a season pass.
IDK, if the ratings improve or I see a better promo I might give it a shot.
It was very funny, Hanks and Whitford have excellent chemistry which will improve.
With Monk finished another hour long Crime Comedy is needed.
Put it in the right time slot and it will do well enough. If Family guy is so strong Put it and American Dad on another night and insert The Good Guys. That will only leave a half hour after the Simpsons as a hole in my Sunday viewing.
Loved it. Had a real “My name is Earl” feel to it, mixed with a little “Knights of prosperity”. I loved the music used and will give it a chance for sure.
My friend and I loved the pilot. Whitford and Hanks make an engaging duo in the spirit of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid- except these two partners are cops. Hanks plays the college educated, by-the-book police officer with perfect timing. Whitford tackles the role of the jaded, alcoholic, womanizing law man with fierce passion. The humor and tongue-in-cheek, witty dialogue and story lines could be lost on a viewer not prepared for a satirical look at Texas law enforcement. Watch more than one episode before writing off this entertaining new series with two extremely talented leading actors and a… Read more »
The show has promise…if not stumbling out of the gate. But it could be a fresh comedy that sets up very nicely as it goes along. We just have to watch the first few episodes of Seinfeld or Friends to know these kinds of shows take a while to hit their stride. The network needs to give this one a chance. If they do, I’m betting this one hits a funny bone.
I think some people are missing the point of “Good Guys”. It is a farce. It is deliberately playing on the cliched “buddy cop” theme. The characters are exagerrations, and therefore require a bit of overacting, hence the occasional corny lines. You should be able to predict the general storyline, if you’ve watched any cop show/movie in the past 30 years. The pilot had to be over-the-top with some of this, just to establish the premise of the show. With all the absurd cop-style shows that try to pass as serious on TV currently (CSI, NCIS, etc.), it’s nice to… Read more »
If you like a bit of a laugh on your cop shows, give ‘Castle’ a whirl
I liked this, but I have to give it an ep or 2 more before I know if it’s on my must-see list
Pilot bored me. Seen this before. Nothing to keep me entertained. I turned it off after 20 min and deleted it from the DVR.
However, I like the actors. I felt it was a poor concept that we’ve seen and poor writing with tired jokes.
It was great!
LOVED IT!
Colon acts like he’s trying to b his dad. Needs to just be himself. Not a clone of his dad Tom Hanks
It sucked!!! Bad chemistry. Not funny. Lame bad acting. Terrible premice. Will not be wasting any more time and energy on this garbage. The classic rock n roll couldn’t even save it any. I’d rather watch Psych if I want that type of garbage
Keep it!! It was funny and entertaining. They did next to no advertising for this early preview. Come on Fox, don’t screw it up. Or do it anyway thats what your best at.
I wasn’t totally intrigued by the pilot, so I need to see more before I can definitely say whether I’ll watch it or not. However, with ratings that low, even if I do end up liking it there’s no point in getting too attached to it.
