Last week, FOX gave viewers a sneak preview of one of their new series — The Good Guys. The TV show is set for a summer run and already has a spot on the network’s fall schedule. Will it last that long?
The Good Guys is an action comedy that pairs a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford) with a young, by-the-book detective (Colin Hanks). Others in the series include Jenny Wade, Diana-Maria Riva, Jennifer Besser, Kimberly Lynn Campbell, Kennith Edwards, Nathan Fane, and Arthur Wooldridge.
Last Wednesday’s premiere attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. That put the TV show’s debut in fourth place in total viewership and tied for third in the coveted demographic with NBC’s Minute to Win It.

That’s hardly a great start and doesn’t bode well for the series’ future. Ratings typically drop lower for a show’s second episode and Good Guys doesn’t exactly have any to spare.
The network isn’t giving up though and has scheduled extra chances to see the pilot by re-airing it this Friday (May 28th) and again on Monday, May 31st. The Good Guys’ regular season will then begin on Monday, June 7th.
Based on the early ratings, one could expect that the series would have a quiet summer run and then be gone. However, FOX had such faith in the series that they gave it a spot on the fall schedule, following Human Target on Friday nights.
Ratings expectations are lower for summers and Friday nights. However, it seems highly unlikely that, unless viewership improves, the show will last beyond the first season.
What do you think? Is The Good Guys worth watching or would you just cancel it now?

We like it funny, clever with the mustach. Keep it on for the season until everyone can get drawn to it. The dude reminds me of phoney car salesman but with good guy tactics.
I love this show! its super funny and very enjoyable. The only reason it’s not a big hit is because it has to compete with “two and a half man”, “the big bang theory”, “last comic standing”, and “the bachelorette”. Those are pretty popular shows and i think people just don’t try to watch something new. If you give “the good guys” a chance, i promise you, you wont be disappointed. It has great acting and a good story. Try it and you’ll love it!
The Good Guys is an enternaining show that’s easy to watch..more people should give it a chance.
Bust some punks!!!
This show takes me back to the old days when tv was about entertainment and not “reality”. Stabbing sock monkeys, trans am’s and a soundtrack from AC/DC, if you don’t like this show, you’re just not American! I’ll take Hanks and Whitford over 10 versions of Hell’s Kitchen any day.
I agree with Rick. It so entertaining. It’s funny without being stupid. Bring back the entertainment of the 70’s. Offer less of the violence and MD shows. We need this after a wrenching day at work. Please give this show a chance.
Fresh, funny, excellent characters that will grow on you. I thoroughly enjoyed both episodes and look forward to a lot more. This one is a keeper. Zany, creative, unapologetic, a comic standard for the future. We’re tired of the serious, ugly realism of cop shows parading out every human failing graphically. This one is pure entertainment with a message.
The overnights for the “premiere” (2nd episode) are down from the pilot. But just to 1.4; however this is their summer time slot and it got beat by repeats. BYE BYE. Faux pushed this marketing hard too.
Thoroughly enjoying the wink-wink retro feel… Very cleverly put together and the stars are fun to watch and work well together. I feel sorry for people who don’t get what they are trying to do here – I mean, come on, someone asked a plastic surgeon to make him look like Eric Estrada in the pilot. Here’s hoping people will tune in and take notice – I have enjoyed the first two episodes quite a lot. Keeping my fingers crossed – this is a good one!
This show is a true highlight compared to the drivel that is television. It makes me laugh out loud and I like that. I’ve got my office hooked. Hope it makes it
Best parody I’ve seen in ages. Bradley Whitford is just one step away from turning to the camera and winking at us! Colin Hanks is a star in the making. Probably won’t be appreciated by enough people, but I plan to watch.
I personally liked the show for it’s entertainment value… I enjoyed Colin Hanks as the straight-man and Bradley Whitford as the rebel… but I also know Fox’s M.O… Because they only broadcast 2 hours per weekday, they don’t have the time or money to spend on shows that only get mediocre ratings… I enjoyed the show a lot, but I won’t be surprised if it is off the air after it’s contracted episodes… just like “Mental” last summer season, even though that was a great show. At least Matt Nix has “Burn Notice” which is fantastically entertaining!
I think the show is hilkarious in a 80s cop show sorta way!I really think the show could become a moderate hit with a loyal fan base and as such, i invite everyone who likes comedy with action (come on all you SLEDGEHAMMER fans!)rally behind this great show waiting to be explored!!!!
Whitford is great, a favorite from West Wing, didn’t know about his comedy! It is smart, off-the-wall hilarious, wife likes it because there is no gore and the shooting scenes in the pilot were obviously a put down of old time shoot em ups. It also helps fill my time while waiting for the Red Sox to make their comeback from many poor opening innings.
Whitford’s comedy = Billy Madison. ‘Nuff said.
Very funny, nice to get away from the “forensics”, great actors and stash.
The funniest show that I’ve seen in years. Kind of a cross between Clint Eastwood and the Coen Brothers. (Raising Arizona) I hope it sticks around!
