Last week, FOX gave viewers a sneak preview of one of their new series — The Good Guys. The TV show is set for a summer run and already has a spot on the network’s fall schedule. Will it last that long?
The Good Guys is an action comedy that pairs a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford) with a young, by-the-book detective (Colin Hanks). Others in the series include Jenny Wade, Diana-Maria Riva, Jennifer Besser, Kimberly Lynn Campbell, Kennith Edwards, Nathan Fane, and Arthur Wooldridge.
Last Wednesday’s premiere attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. That put the TV show’s debut in fourth place in total viewership and tied for third in the coveted demographic with NBC’s Minute to Win It.

That’s hardly a great start and doesn’t bode well for the series’ future. Ratings typically drop lower for a show’s second episode and Good Guys doesn’t exactly have any to spare.
The network isn’t giving up though and has scheduled extra chances to see the pilot by re-airing it this Friday (May 28th) and again on Monday, May 31st. The Good Guys’ regular season will then begin on Monday, June 7th.
Based on the early ratings, one could expect that the series would have a quiet summer run and then be gone. However, FOX had such faith in the series that they gave it a spot on the fall schedule, following Human Target on Friday nights.
Ratings expectations are lower for summers and Friday nights. However, it seems highly unlikely that, unless viewership improves, the show will last beyond the first season.
What do you think? Is The Good Guys worth watching or would you just cancel it now?

Over the top! Dan & Jack are keepers! Roflmbo!
I think the characters are great –it took me a couple of shows –but now I’m hooked. I don’t usually laugh at detective shows but I think Dan Stark is a hoot.
I love the show! The format is different and the actors are fun to watch. Don’t cancel, Please!!!
At first I thought “another cop show, give me a break.” After watching the first episode, I was hooked. This is fresh mostly because of the characters the top notch actors create. Please bring this back in the Fall.
Love it. Bring it back!
8/3: OMGoodness. The Good Guys is the best show on TV right now. It seems to appeal to all age groups. I’m in my 60’s, g.son in his 20’s,and friends from 30’s to 70’s LOVE this show. PLEASE DON”T CANCEL IT……..; it’s funny ( we are actually laughing out loud, suspenseful, a blast to watch. Thanks, what can we do to save it????????????? indilindi
I think the show is darling and a nice departure from the cookie cutter cop shows that are on every single channel. It isn’t perfect but has lots of potential. A definite keeper! I didn’t recognize Bradley Whitford for two episodes!
I love the show, both Hanks and Witford are perfect in their roles, I am maried to a cop and have in the 32 years with him have met cops true to the character of both the good guys, crazy things happen out there on the street and a lot of them are funny , there is enough sadness and gloom and obligations in most peoples day to day life its nice to laugh and forget it for a while. Thank you for a most enjoyable show, my husband and I are 50+ but my daughters are in their late… Read more »
The show is awesome, except for the character Colin Hanks plays. No one believes he is straight with a extremely hot ex-girlfriend and all of his whining is REALLY annoying and unnecessary. I vote for some recasting of Colin Hanks role pronto.
The character Dan Stark is hands-down the funniest thing on TV right now. I watch the show religiously on Hulu (since I don’t have a TV). Seriously, this is my favorite comedy TV show… nothing else even comes close.
Bradley Whitford is so good at playing this new, over-the-top character, it is hard to believe this is the same guy we watched with delight in his serious West Wing role. Colin Hanks is pitched perfect as the straight man. And shall we talk about the semi-appropriate, smile-inducing, sound track?! LOL funny show–a keeper!
They’d better not cancel this show – these two guys are perfect!
Hi-lar-i-ous! I missed the show the first time around so decided to take a chance during the second viewings. Watched with scepticism so did not expect to be laughing out loud! Bradley Whitford is fabulous. As a 50+ person I so appreciate the satiric view of this series. Truly a guilty pleasure….please give the show a chance !
I think this show is hilarious. I don’t usually laugh out loud at TV shows, but Bradley Whitford is a hoot! I hope the show stays on because I think it is totally comical. I forget my problems when I watch, and that’s a really good thing!
I, too, am 50+ and my interest in the show is slipping. Bradley Whitford seems to play Dan Stark with a tongue-in-cheek quality that undercuts the show’s premise of “unearned confidence” as showcased in the movie “Talladega Nights.” He needs to play it more as Lt. Col. Oliver North; brilliant, effective, amoral, ruthless, charming and irresistible. A loose cannon who can get the most astonishing things done.
