TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
definitely keep it, there is nothing else like it on TV, it is fun and exciting , has a great cast too.
I love the show, and the way you have been showing the new episodes twice on Sunday’s has been nice. With two toddlers running around I sometimes miss the first airing.
PLEASE Keep! My son and I love watching this show together! I had never even heard of the movie trilogy, “The Librarian,” until this show. My son and I borrowed those from the library (but, of course!) to get the background on the show. It was not needed to love the show, but just more for us to enjoy together!
KEEP this great, family-friendly show on tv!!
Plus, you owe us…I used to love watching Perception and Franklin & Bash. Keeping this show will make up for that.
Love this series! Keep it!
Keep
keep it!!!
Keep it. It’s an excellent combination of whimsy, action, and nerdiness. There’s nothing else like it on tv right now.
Please renew The Librarians for another season. The acting is wonderful, the comedy is believable, the chemistry between the characters is genuine, but most of all—Christian Kane!!!! I’ve bee waiting impatiently for him to come back to TV after the cancellation of Leverage, and I’d hate to see such talent taken away again. I also appreciate having a show my entire family can watch–not just the adults.
Keep it. Love the show and want to watch the characters grow along with the series.
Keep it! It’s campy and fun!
Please keep it! I love this show!
Definitely keep it! I’m absolutely LOVING IT!!!
