TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Turning the Librarian series into a TV show was genius. The cast is great; being a fan of Leverage, I really like Christian Kane’s character in this series. It fits well. Rebecca Romijn is perfect for that role and she does it so well … Keep the show guys, it’d be a sad day for TV if you canceled it … give it at least another season and a bigger budget. You won’t be disappointed; Us Supernatural and Leverage fans have been searching for a new show.
Please keep this very unique interesting an awesome show or pretty soon people will quit watching shows in fear of getting attached and then I’m getting cancelled I could give you a list very long in just the last three years alone which is why Netflix is starting to produce TV series
Keep the Librarians…..the wife and I watch it and it sure beats other programming !!!!!
Please keep the show. It is awesome. It’s a great bunch of characters and the possibilities are endless.
It most definitely should be renewed!! It has so much more to do, and the cast is wonderful in their diversity. Quit putting dumb reality shows on and KEEP shows like Leverage and The Librarians that actually make you think while you watch them!
