TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Please don’t cancel the Librarians, it’s a great show and is a change from all the violence and the bad comedies that are on the networks. My family and I love the show, watch every week and would hate to see it gone.

please do NOT cancel this show..cast writing all great! one of the very very few sci-fi ish shows that doesn’t deal with vampires…i love Christian and Noah. awesome awesome show.
I never saw the movies, but since Warehouse 13 didn’t get a good ending, I consider this a spin-off to Warehouse 13, so yes, keeping the The Librarians would be a good choice in book. Plus Noah might be back if it gets picked up, and since this is the final season of Falling Skies….
After watching the show for the first time, which was NOT the first episode; actually it was the 6th episode. I did not understand the show, hense I did not care for it, and would never watch any further episode. But, my wife TiVo’d the repeats to try to catch up, and the second time I watched it was starting from the 1st episode 1 in order. I sincerely hope they renew this series! My family loved the movies and have them on DVD for repeat viewing. The series is a fun chance to escape real life while not being afraid to let all members of the family view with you. Additionally the cast is terrific – every last one of them! It’s nice to watch the great onscreen chemistry they have with each other. I understand competition for viewers and advertisers is fierce these days, but it should not take away the opportunity for TV shows to develop story lines, characters and a viewership. The Librarians: Definetly keep this show TNT. I know I’m sick of reality shows that churn out shallow nobodies. Time for a change, escapeism is the NOW show to air and The Librarians is THE show.

This is the best programme to appear since Leverage started. The plot is fantastic and it never goes where you think it will go so storyline really makes you think. The characters really bounce well off each other and would love to see another season and another and another …… need I say more? 🙂

This is such a gem!! I’m really bummed it is over so quickly! I want MORE of The Librarians! I loved the movies, and when I heard they were making a series, I could not believe my good fortune! Please bring them back for many more seasons!!!

Please renew the librarians! It’s a nice change from the crap that has filled most of the TV slots. I really hate getting into a show and it gets cancelled.
Please! There is so little on TV with the quality of clean excitement and tasteful fun that you’ve given us in The Librarians. The series harks to Doctor Who, and it’s a flight of fancy a new generation will look back on with love.
It’s barely gotten started!! We’re just beginning to learn more about the characters & they’re just beginning to find their stride!! This show has to be given some time to develop & grow into itself. A few shows does not a ‘season’ make.
Please keep the show. It is awesome and fun to watch.
