TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Oh my god, please keep it. I’m a typical teenager who is a Fangirl and loves shows like Supernatual, Gotham, The Walking Dead, and this new show is literally right up my alley. I love the idea based plot and characters. They take myths and/or old stories and create them into something amazing. I’m already up for joining the Librairians fandom, I can’t wait to start using inside jokes and lines with fellow fans. This show is to die for, and it has to be kept, it’s amazing.
The Librarians have been a great series for TNT. Kids I watch have enjoyed it and loves the concept of the library. They are asking more questions about art and history. I know that is probably not the point of the show but that is what it is doing. The kids are reading more to be as smart as the characters on the show. There should be a second season.
Keep it! This is a great show and NEEDS to continued! It Has quickly become my favorite show. I look forward to more and i hope they renew it for season 2.

Ofcourse keep it. The world needs a bit of magic. You can only hang on for so far on the endless, rather uniform crime and hospital stuff. Have balls. Be different.
Keep it! I enjoy watching the show.
