Kiefer Sutherland (24) and FOX will continue their long relationship into next season. Touch, the actor’s newest TV series, has been renewed for a second season.
Touch follows the tale of Martin Bohm (Sutherland) and his struggle to connect with his young autistic son (David Mazouz), a boy who sees patterns that connect the people and events of the world. Other castmembers include Danny Glover, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Roxana Brusso.
The network took a gamble by giving Touch a special premiere in January, two months before the show would start airing regularly. The initial episode’s performance was solid with a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 12.01 million total viewers. But, would that audience remember to tune in again in mid-March?
They did, or at least most of them did. Touch returned on Thursday, March 22nd to a 3.3 rating and 11.81 million. With American Idol as a strong lead-in, the show easily won its timeslot, more than doubling the demo of the number two-rated show, 30 Rock.

Compared to the first episode, the second episode of Touch dropped about 15% in the demo. The third installment fell another 18% and the fourth fell another 15% — to a 2.3 rating. The ratings for Touch have continued to dwindle over the course of the season and the April 26th episode fell to series lows with a 1.9 demo rating and 6.43 million total viewers.
On our FOX Ratings Report Card, Touch has a “B-” grade and a 2.6 demo average with 8.57 million. Based on the most recent numbers, those averages will continue to drop.
Had this been another year, Touch could have easily been cancelled instead of renewed. I suspect it was renewed because a) it’s produced by FOX and b) because the network’s other new dramas haven’t done any better. Terra Nova, Alcatraz, and The Finder have performed worse than Touch and won’t be back next season. Coupled with the fact that House is ending and Fringe will only return for 13 episodes, FOX is going to have plenty of timeslots to fill and it’s better to have at least one sophomore drama on the schedule than none.
FOX hasn’t said how many season two episodes have been ordered yet but, based on Touch’s performance, it seems likely that they’re just ordering 13 to start.

Touch has a different twist for a storyline. Sure beats all those copycat programs
who cannot think of anything new and just rehash whatever is the fad of the year.
I love Touch. It is my favorite series and love the fact that I can watch it with my whole family. Please continue this series!!
I’m bummed that terra nova was cancelled- was really looking foward to season 2. Touch shouldn’t be cancelled either it’s a great show. please, please , please keep Touch on and bring back Terra Nova.

LOVE this show, Keifer Sutherland picks the best roles and series to act in. This series is not like most of the others out there where everything is so predictable. My favorite movie of all times is Crash where everything and everyone intertwines somehow without ever meeting. More people in the world should watch this series to see how every little thing each of of does affects someone that we never met. I hope this series last as long or longer than 24 another addicting and great series by keifer sutherland.
Yes, it was my favorite show too. I do not know why people are luke warm about it. Fox should do a better promotion… maybe… It is great. and I am so waiting for Season 2.
Thought the series was awesome, the best works of drama tv i’ve ever seen, it was so intricate and exciting, seeing the same people and new as well throughout its run. Yes it dwindled down after a few episodes but at the end of each episode i was fulfilled and happy. i’d love to see it go on!
This is a very clever show that actually entertains you. You get to think, and in the end, usually feel good in the end. Pure entertainment.
So happy to see Touch continue, hopefully for a long time. !!! My husband and I love to watch, its very touching , spirtual, and shows how kindness changes things in our world. I feel it helps to open people’s eyes to how easy it is to just ‘Be kind’ to our fellow human beings. We watched Kiefer in 24 and we were huge fans, HATED for it to end and are patiently waiting for the movie to come out.
This program ‘Touch’ has been my farovite for the season. I would like to get the script of the words that Jake spoke in the monolgue. This is something to think about. I love Touch….it releases something wonderful in me. It is a balm. I recorded the episodes and will watch them all together some special weekend; especially now that I see so many links from previous episodes that make it all happen.
I love the tv show Touch. I think its amazing what they show the father does for his son and trying to protect him. I personally would love more shows like Touch. My whole family loves this show and theres never been one show that all six of my family members loved. I really hope this continues. I would buy every season.
