LOS ANGELES, September 18, 2014 – FX has ordered a 13-episode second season of the drama series Tyrant, from Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award-winning Executive Producer/Showunner Howard Gordon, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, the Presidents of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.
Production of Tyrant is scheduled to begin next spring with the second season returning in the summer of 2015.
“We’re so proud of Tyrant’s performance throughout its first season,” said Grad. “Howard Gordon is one of the best and most successful producers in this business. His ability to combine intelligent, edge-of-your-seat storytelling with events from the current geopolitical climate is truly groundbreaking. We look forward to seeing how Tyrant grows in season two.”
“Working with John Landgraf and his team at FX has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my career,” said Gordon. “I’m truly grateful for the chance to continue working with them on this challenging and exciting project.”
The ratings for Tyrant’s first season were incredibly consistent throughout its 10-week run, with the Adults 18-49 audience average for the first half of the season identical to the second half of the season. On a weekly basis, Tyrant averaged 5.1 million Total Viewers and 2.3 million Adults 18-49 inclusive of linear, time-shifted and non-linear viewing (data through eight weeks).
Despite the initial controversy surrounding the show, the audience response was very favorable. Tyrant generated an audience favorability score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and a user score of 8.0 out of 10 on IMDb. Verne Gay of Newsday wrote about Tyrant at the conclusion of season one, “Tyrant makes a strong turn in the end…. [Howard] Gordon and [Glenn Gordon] Caron have backed their way into a big idea….highly compelling….A second season has been earned.”
All 10 episodes from the first season of Tyrant are currently available on FX’s VOD platform FXNOW for authenticated subscribers of the network.
From Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning Executive Producer/Showunner Howard Gordon (24, Homeland), Tyrant tells the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the inner workings of a turbulent fictional Middle Eastern nation. Bassam “Barry” Al-Fayeed, the younger son of the dictator of a war-torn nation, ends a self-imposed 20-year exile to return to his homeland, accompanied by his American wife and children, for his nephew’s wedding. Barry’s reluctant homecoming leads to a dramatic clash of cultures as he is thrown back into the familial and national politics of his youth. The cast includes Adam Rayner, Jennifer Finnigan, Ashraf Barhom, Moran Atias, Noah Silver, Anne Winters, Fares Fares, Salim Daw, Justin Kirk, Mehdi Dehbi, and Alice Krige.
Tyrant was created by Gideon Raff and is produced by Fox 21 and FX Productions. The series was developed by Howard Gordon & Craig Wright. Glenn Gordon Caron, Peter Noah, Michael Lehmann, and Avi Nir also serve as Executive Producers along with Chris Keyser as Consulting Producer and Chris Levinson as Co-Executive Producer. We absolutely love this show. Each show gets better & leaves us hanging. We really hope it gets renewed for another season.
I love Tyrant! Season two was captivating and exciting! I would rush home after my board meeting on Tuesday so i could watch the show. I hated you kill my Jamal in the final season! But new characters must raise to the top…Adam did save the country! Looking forward to season three(3)!
I Love you Ashraf…please find another show / movie for him. Mr. Gordon I see Emmy & Golden Globe Awards for Tyrant!
I think Tyrant is great. Reality shows have overrun television and saturated it. Some of the people, especially people over 40 still appreciate scripted, well-written television shows. it is refreshing to get away from reality television and appreciate a different culture that many of us know nothing about.
Thank you.
my whole family loves this show, we can wait for Tuesday nite at 10, please keep it coming
for a third season
I absolutely LOVE Tyrant TV show on FX !!!!!!!!
I was very happy they had the second season and HOPE for more.
It is compelling, interesting and a very good plot with great actors for the parts played in the series.
I watch over and over and over each episode and get more from each viewing.
Please, keep up the good work by all!!!!
The greatest show I have watched in a very long time. Please keep it going into a third season.
My husband ,myself, and 12 yr old granddaughter love this show. She says it shows her about the living of other countries. She does not watch much news. So this show is teaching her that other countries are not the same as th United States. How lucky we are. It has open her eyes to how other people live so different. The shambles and violence that go on. It has mad her want to learn history of why things are so different.
Love Tyrant….look forward to each episode with its turns and twists…excellent acting…..like Jamal….and now his brother back to help…wow…keep it coming
