Tyrant was cancelled after just three seasons on FX, and the reasons behind the shocking cancellation have now been revealed. Bert Salke, the FOX 21 President, spoke about those reasons with The Hollywood Reporter.
Salke said the following:
“We knew after the second year and were really aware that for a show we felt so strongly about — and the fan base felt so strongly about — that the numbers weren’t commensurate with the base for the show. Nobody was more aware than the FX people and John wanted to get in front of it. Chris, Howard and the studio went in with very open eyes and hoping for the best. We were getting behind it the same way we do every year and preparing for any number of outcomes. There were no surprises.”
There is hope that the series will return. Tyrant is being actively shopped to streaming services. It could land on Netflix or Hulu.

Yes, another show cancelled without the loose ends tied
It has such a good story to tell a life outside of the US on a global stance. As well it plays a part in showing how the United States plays a part in shaping the global future.
Yes it showed how politics and past political circumstances occur it created showing both sides of the middle east situation re woman gay life thinking in that society was well worth continuing if FX did not than find another slot where thinking viewers go ie HBO Netflix
Bring back the show! In light of today’s political environment, the show serves to provide a different perspective on the Middle East/culture. At a minimum a 4th season will allow for closure with some of the characters.
OMG. We want Tyrant! The only teason why it cancelled is because the advertising for it on other networks was non existent. No one knew about the series enough to watch it. I hope it streams somewhere so that the fans can enjoy the series.
Please, please, please find an outlet for this show and season 4. My spouse is Iranian, and this is one of 3 series we faithfully watch (yes, one of the others is Homeland). Do not let this series end. 3 years is not enough. It is so frustrating to see these short series like Banshee, Strikeback, Sons of Anarchy along with others we grew to really enjoy leave the air so soon. I for one do not think its ‘fresh’ to leave while shows still have very good content to provide that the audience enjoys. It’s foolish for networks to… Read more »
yes, yes, yes…ENOUGH SAID!
if you were going end the series then it should have been some kind of ending to tie everything together
This is so crazy! I am such a fan it is an amazing show. I have never wanted to ” go to bat” for a show more than this one. Please tell me this is not so
Yes, the fans want a second season of real acting and a relevant topic!!
Yes, we are so disappointed!
I am SOOOO sad to see this!!! What a fantastic show, the acting, the camera shots, the quality. I feel this show couldn’t have Come At a better time considering the never ending violence in the Middle East. “Islam is peace”, what a beautiful moment of the show. Def gives a better insight in my opinion. I REALLY hope FX would reconsider! Im a hair stylist and my clients like to talk about tv, I always ask them if they’ve heard of this show and they say they haven’t…. that tells me that promotion of this show was weak. Not… Read more »
YES Please give us a season 4 if just to close up all the loose ends. The Season 3 Finale “Two Graves” left too much open-ended to leave me satisfied. Please give us a Season 4!
Great Show!! Love it Hope to see another season!!
I honestly think Tyrant fell apart in season 3, and we ended up with nothing to be in favor of, or pretty much to care about. I am not sorry to see it go, although I am sad it ended up this way.
The show was awful. The plot lines were trite and unrealistic. It should have been canceled and thankfully it was.
Seriously? It portrays what’s going on in the Middle East!
The development of Basam and Molly was absurd. Being from Boston, I’ve seen how the family of Martin Richards handled the horrific murder of their child, and the permanent, debilitating injuries to his sister and mother, the wonderful friendship that developed between Jeff Bauman and Carlos Arredondo, and how the vast majority of the community pulled together and refused to scapegoat an entire group of people for the actions of two murdering malcontents. That’s how good people handle unimaginable tragedy. They don’t do a full 180 on their humanitarian ideals, and lower themselves to the level of their bloodthirsty adversaries.
It’s a TV show for heavens sake. Don’t be so sensitive. All TV shows are fiction for the most part. You’re taking this too personal.
