Tyrant was cancelled after just three seasons on FX, and the reasons behind the shocking cancellation have now been revealed. Bert Salke, the FOX 21 President, spoke about those reasons with The Hollywood Reporter.
Salke said the following:
“We knew after the second year and were really aware that for a show we felt so strongly about — and the fan base felt so strongly about — that the numbers weren’t commensurate with the base for the show. Nobody was more aware than the FX people and John wanted to get in front of it. Chris, Howard and the studio went in with very open eyes and hoping for the best. We were getting behind it the same way we do every year and preparing for any number of outcomes. There were no surprises.”
There is hope that the series will return. Tyrant is being actively shopped to streaming services. It could land on Netflix or Hulu.

I would love to see Tryant return! There are shows on that I can not believe that year after year they are renewed and then you get a show Like Tyrant which is totally different from anything that is on or has been on and has a hint of reality as to what goes on in other parts of the world and it’s cancelled? Season 3 wasn’t as good as the 1st two, but I’d like it to continue. Glad the older brother is gone – the actor was annoyingly mannered & speech pacing was odd, making him seem a bit moronic rather than an evil leader. Enough of the p.c. gay son. Time to man up & stop the whiny routine or move back to the USA for Phys. therapy. Current 1st lady can do something besides grieve & seethe; former 1st lady needs to lay off the boring s**pot act play a purposeful game to be interesting or steal from the treasury… Read more »
To end a show on a cliff hanger kind of sucks but what do you expect from a Network like FOX. Hopefully Netflix will pick up this show if nothing more then to bring it to a conclusion something FOX refused to do.
