To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.

this happens so much…whatever game is scheduled to play puts the time line off so all programs on sunday nite are all screwed up and then the network cancels them…this has happened over and over…I won’t ever watch any new show on cbs on sunday night again!!! it just isn’t fair.
The show sucked, that’s why it was cancelled. I loved Alex O’Laughlin in Moonlight. He was much more convincing as a vampire with a conscience than he was as a caring doctor. I’m not sure I would watch anything with him in it again. That’s how bad I thought he was in Three Rivers.
Our stations are full of repeated shows were all the new ones could very nicely fit in but no we are forced to watch the same show over and over . Good heavens why do we have to pay for it in viewing as well as in our hard earned money. Doesn’t any programmers watch TV. good TV sucks big time . no advertising for new programing for billions to set their stations to them . we just start getting involved and it gets canceled . discouragement is in the future for the stations if the public dosent have a vote .
very disappointed that the show is being cancelled…..my husband patiently waited for a kidney transplant after being on “the list” for over three years, I thought the show was wonderful and had hoped that it would make the general population more of aware of the importance of be an organ donor, etc.
Perhaps if the time slot had been different, the show would have had a better chance of survival.
Seems like there is a lot of support for this show. I hope someone will look into airing it on another channel and actually give it a chance to make it. It was clean, inspiring … and I was hoping it wouldn’t fall into the Grey’s Anatomy/ER aftermath of having everyone sleep with everyone else. I was huge fans of ER and Grey’s Anatomy however, after a while it’s all about people sleeping with everyone and it’s not why I tuned into a great show to begin with. It’s not fair that Three Rivers was dumped behind football games and if ever, started on time. I am tired of reality shows and really enjoyed that show as well as Phylanthrapist. I can’t believe how they keep some shows on and take good ones off. It’s like you almost don’t want to invest in watching something because if you like it, if it’s good, it’s sure to be canceled. Please someone bring back these good shows!
Moonlight was a unique series, the one and only, a real love story. Alex was wonderful as a vampire and my husband and I was really disappointed when it was cancelled. Three Rivers was just another hospital story, which we have plently to select from. I think Alex made a much better vampire than a doctor. Why not bring back Moonlight???
Sunday Night football definitely screwed it up. They should have moved it to a different night(not Monday–football) and advertised the switch. I loved that show!
