Jenna Elfman’s CBS sitcom, Accidentally on Purpose, completed its freshman season last week and she and the rest of the cast (Jon Foster, Lennon Parham, Grant Show, Nicolas Wright, Ashley Jensen, and Pooch Hall) are anxiously waiting to hear if the TV show will be renewed or cancelled.
The CBS series has been a joy for the veteran sitcom actress to do and Elfman recently told FOX News “The more people watch, the better our chances are at getting a second season, which I really hope we get, because I really enjoy doing the show.”
Unfortunately, the show’s prospects don’t look very good at this point. The ratings weren’t as high as the network wanted and even last week’s finale didn’t bring high ratings. It brought in a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demo and just 5.23 million viewers. Unfortunately, that’s a new ratings low for Accidentally on Purpose and CBS has other promising sitcoms waiting in the wings.
If Accidentally on Purpose is somehow lucky enough to escape cancellation, Elfman is looking forward to seeing how Billie and Zack handle parenthood together.
A mother of two, she told ET, “I think it is going to be hilarious to see this couple as parents. They are like two different generations. Parenting raises some amazing issues. My husband and I have been together 18 years. We hit new levels of conflict and dilemma and love. Everything that a relationship has magnifies when you bring a child into it.”
What do you think? Would you like to see how they handle parenthood or was the finale a good way to end Accidentally on Purpose?

If you ask me, the whole premise of the show happens too much in TV shows, movies, and real life. I’m kind of surprised it lasted a whole season. I never could get into it. I say that they should give new shows a chance.
Keep it!
i loooovvvve this show. it makes me laugh, and it was impossible to keep up with the day change after they’d been off the air!!! the writing’s funny, the acting’s great… of course jenna’s great but i really love discovering new actors like the guy who plays davis and the girl who plays billie’s sister… abby? it seems like exactly the kind of thing cbs like… weird screwed up family. but really, i mostly like the jokes. (oh and jon foster’s cute).
Please keep the show! I love Billie & Zack! If you don’t like it just change channels it’s just that simple!
end the show! they got 2gether, had a baby, not much else they can do, haha!
Time to go bye bye. Not that great of a show.
I didn’t even know it was on Wednesday nights. That was probably why they didn’t do good for the season finally. I only watch CBS on Monday nights and friday nights. I liked it better when it was on Monday nights, I do not care much for that other monday night show they put on instead. I like Jenna Elfmen ever since she was on Dharma and Greg and I hope she stays on. As for finding new material about having a baby. you have to remember there is still that age differance they are also still not married yet.… Read more »
There’s a reason that the movie Knocked Up (which this show was so obviously a rip off of) ended shortly after they had the baby. Who needs another sitcom recycling the same raising a baby jokes they’ve been doing on TV since Lucy had little Ricky? I dn’t see this show having anything new to add about the subject. CBS needs something new and hopefully more original.
Please cancel this show. Although I do prefer it on Wednesday nights because I don’t watch CBS at all that night 🙂
Keep the show please! I love Billie and Zack!
No problem. One more thing, apparently since there are three people doing articles, why not make it show who wrote it?
You typed “Elman”. Anyway, hope it stays around.
@phil: Thanks for catching that typo. Curiously spellcheck thought it was okay but flagged every instance of Elfman.
Keep the show, I can see a lot to come. Its like a gift, an idea from the cosmos. Go with it, man, then get with it.
AoP lost nearly 3 million viewers from it’s last Monday showing on 2/8/10 to it’s first Wednesday showing two months later. Between the new night, the tougher competition, the lackluster lead in, the two-month hiatus, and the lack of CBS promotion, it’s no wonder the show tanked it’s final three episodes!! This was a GREAT show, but CBS treated it the way ABC typically treats its shows. The show was working brilliantly and was on an upward trend when CBS yanked it off Mondays. I hope if (and when) CBS passes, that another net picks this up, at least for… Read more »
I totally agree. I would be sad to see it go.
Who knows. I mean really. As I said earlier. It should get another season but in the condition of keeping the guy with the long hair and the scottish girl. I want what happens with them a little than the main characters. Thats just me.
