As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
The garbage we see on TV is nothing but the enemy trying to brainwash our youth and adults. As Christians we need to take a stand and stand tall. We to demand our place in this country. TV and social media have kicked our Christian beliefs and morals to the curb, just like our government. If you read Revelations you will not exactly what I am talking about. We need the gospel to be shared everywhere and TV is the perfect place to reach the population of non-believers and build up the believers. If we all pray about this, God… Read more »
I loved it and am sad to learn it has been cancelled.
Hope they Bring it Back , There is way to many Evil or anti-christian Movies on tv , and evil does not want more people to learn God’s love and that Jesus is a SON OF GOD !
Yes they need to bring it back agree
Alex, you need to watch your wording. Jesus isn’t just “a” Son of God, He’s “THE” Son of God. While we all become his children through baptism, Jesus is the “only begotten Son”!
I and my family and friends are disappointed over the canceling! I wish it would be going to a cable channel so it would be easier for those who are not internet Davy to watch.
I love the idea of the channel for more religious programing that Burnett and Downy have in the works! Keep it up guys God is with you!
My family and I are greatly disappointed Bible AD was canceled. We hope this decision will be reconsidered. There is a large audience who appreciate this type of programming and is a wonderful opportunity for families to watch together and later discuss. This should not be viewed as “religion” but history brought to life on screen in a beautiful and believable way. Please bring this type of quality programming back.
Saddened by another decent series (AD The Bible Continues) canceled. Being around since 1946, I was fortunate to be able to see good decent family programing such as Leave It To Beaver, Lost in Space, The Little Rascals, Shirley Temple, etc. as I grew up. As I grew older, I witnessed the gradual decay of programing and my first shock was seeing the advertising of underwear! Then came the soap operas. Seemed like airing the dirty laundry of others and their problems and morals was becoming “acceptable” as well as being imitated in real life. What a deceiver is the… Read more »
So glad that others wonder about NBC. I am willing to find A.D. and pray the same actors are available. It makes sense not to change in midstream. When will NBC learn?
The same can be said of any station, Trish. ABC is being inundated with comments and requests to bring back Forever, even if it’s on another night or time, but so far, no word on if they’ll listen. Resurrection made it two (short) seasons and it’s now been dropped. The viewers are tired of reality shows, which only got their start during the writer’s strike back in 2008 (we lost several fantastic new shows that year because of the writers), contest shows (are you really serious!), and shows that are overloaded with sex, violence, drugs, etc., which are the things… Read more »
I cannot believe a show like “Undateable” gets renewed but not “A.D.” This show was so incredibly well-done. Of course the story is the greatest but the acting was so exceptional. NBC, if you want to bring yourself out of the gutter, some quality shows like “A.D.” and would help. Leave the disgusting sitcoms behind. Bring back “A.D.” and “Beyond A. D.” with Jason Kennedy, I loved that, too.
Very well said.
I’m really sad that they’re not going to continue AD the bible continues. I’ve even watched it on YouTube and now I can’t even watch it there anymore. So sad because it was an awesome program I do hope they reconsider second season of the A.D. the Bible continues.
I will reply for serveral friends with a question. How about churches using the series as a bible study? Mine does! instead of talking about bad shows, maybe
Why don’t you broadcast AD the Bible Continues on TBN ware they show all chritIan movies. It’s a Christian TV station.
Regular broadcasting such as ABC, CBS, NBC, ect. Seems to me, to be the perfect format for this series to reach people who may have never heard the story of JESUS CHRIST. I believe that our Lord has opened a window of opportunity, and I pray he makes a way for next season to happen. God hears our Prayers, so let all of us who profess to be believers pray for this outcome. God will be glorified.
I am very disappointed about this .I was really looking forward to season 2. I really hope they reconsider to bring season 2 .
Keep the SHOW!! BRING IT BACK!
Please bring the show back!! I loved it!
NBC Always do stupid That’s why I stopped watching NBC I hope CBS picks it up.
I hope so, too. I was greatly disappointed when AD was cancelled.
It will probably be replaced with some stupid reality show or something else that has no meaning what so ever, this show was awesome and GOOD but the network just wants what will make them more money it is sad really. I pray that it will be on somewhere that i can watch if i have to i will hook my pc up to my tv and watch it i would even pay for another cable channel JUST TO WATCH THIS ONE SHOW
Man I am so depressed that this wont be on anymore, I was so anxious for season 2 this is just horrible. The way it ended I thought for sure it would come back on I sure hope if it comes on elsewhere I have the channel or I know about it.
I totally agree!! Terrible that they have cancelled this series…
