It looks like The Catch has failed to catch on. The ABC TV series has been cancelled after two seasons. The defacto series finale airs tonight.
Created by Kate Atkinson, Helen Gregory, and Jennifer Schuur, the drama follows a game of cat and mouse between private investigator, Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos), and the man she loves, the elusive con artist, Benjamin Jones (Peter Krause). The cast also includes Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Rose Rollins, Sonya Walger, Elvy Yost, and John Simm.
Unlike Shonda Rhimes’ series that have also aired on Thursday nights, The Catch has never pulled in strong ratings. Even after extensive retooling as a romantic comedy, season two has been averaging a poor 0.68 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 3.32 million viewers, making it one of ABC‘s lowest-rated series for the 2016-2017 season.
Produced by Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, The Catch was supposedly a favorite of ABC boss Channing Dungey. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to land the low-rated series a third season.

This is disappointing. Not a very good ending for a good show.
I think the show was well acted, albeit a few. In the very least there should have been an ending. So many shows out there that are awful. This was not one of them.
This is shameful of the network that do not have the decency to give it an ending, cuz great acting, a lot of fun and plenty of action!! There’s so many empty and repetitive shows out there which get too many seasons which is crazy which goes to show that brainless shows gets so much more attention and the networks will suffer for this due to people will hesitate about the next show on these networks cuz why start to watch something that they are going to cancel most lightly anyway(just wait to see if the show gets all seasons… Read more »

I don’t understand how such an excellent program didn’t get sufficient viewers. It was well written, with great actors and interesting cinematography. I’ve now watched both seasons twice, but I would really have liked to see at least a season 3 to conclude.

Sad I don’t get to see the third season. I’ll just have to just watch 1st and 2nd over and over again.

Why bother starting so many of these shows when people get attached only for them to be canceled after one or two seasons. It’s really starting to become a disappointment and I’d rather not even bother. I would say 3.32 MILLION viewers would be worth keeping a show on, but I guess these greedy networks don’t think so. I’m tired of investing time in good shows that have a lot of potential just for these networks to yank them, and replace them every other season, I’d rather watch Netflix. I TOTALLY AGREE. I LOVED THE SHOW AND I AM SICK AND TIRED OF INVESTING TIME TO WATCH A SERIES JUST FOR IT TO BE CANCELLED WITHOUT A PROPER ENDING AFTER A SEADON OR TWO. I WOULD RATHER JUST WATCH MOVIES….SICK OF THIS.
I loved this show and was saddened to hear it’s been cancelled after only one season. The cast was great and story plot different! What a shame, have to switch back to CBS or NBC shows.
