Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I just found out that Cedar Cove has been canceled. I loved that show. Granted, it didn’t have all the drama and scandal and sex and twisted plots like a lot of the shows have that I like, but maybe that’s why I liked it. The scenery was breathtaking and it was just a good story to watch. I am very sad about this.
I was wondering about this and have just found my answer. I did like the show, but felt it could have been much better if it had followed the premise of Debbie Macomber’s books. But instead, it went off on a tangent that made it all but unrecognizable from the books. I did enjoy it, though, and I’m sorry to see it end with so many unresolved plot lines. I see a Sheryl Woods series is premiering this summer — maybe they got a better deal?
I loved the series and hate that it was canceled leaving too many unanswered questions. If they were going to cancel it, they should have at least done a final episode that wrapped up all the loose ends. When I watched the last episode, it just made me mad.
can’t believe how the last episode finished! what is the story?
Is there one more episode or was I the last one with lots of unanswered questions? Can’t find it anywhere 🙁
I loved this show…please bring it back!!….if there was more advertising it..more people would watch it!
Sad to see this show end. Wish you would have at least tied up the loose ends of the show.
I do not think it takes a lot to figure it out. It was on in summer not many Canadians stay in on summer nights to watch tv.
So sad to see it end
I watched Cedar Cove from the start. Why leave an unfinished cliffhanger. Very disappointed Hallmark. Shame on you!
So sad to see this has been cancelled ! Finally we had a série that was peacefull.
Please bring back Cedar Cove for a 4th season, or at least a few episodes to wrap up. Enjoyed watching all the episodes. Love the peacefulness of a show like this one. Not too many out there!
I am very saddened to see that Cedar Cove’s been cancelled. It was one show that made Sunday night viewing worthwhile. Great cast. Bring the show back, even if for a few movie updates.
I really enjoyed this series. I am so sad to see it end. It was such a wholesome program with great people.
So many crappy reality TV shows out there. Cedar Cove was a great series set in a beautiful location. Very sad to see it end. Hopefully someone else will pick it up.
The series should have been completed and not left with so many loose ends. Sad about your decision!!!
I am so sorry cedar cove is not coming back this season. I really looked forward to seeing it again. Love the people in it. A very good show. So sad.
I was looking forward to another season and am very disappointed with your decision to cancel.
