Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
How could they do this?? How about a 2hr movie to wrap things up and as a way to thank fans for they loyalty. Poor decision by executives.
How could they do this…not even a 2hr movie to wrap things up??? This is how Hallmark thanks its loyal fan base. WOW…executives should be ashamed of themselves.
What a mistake… You take off clean family shows and WHY? We have watched every episode and looking forward to continuing the storyline. It would have been right to at least produce an ending to the story lines. I wish you would reconsider your decision.
So disappointed to read this. Have been looking forward to it’s return. Why is the decent family programming always cancelled?
Exactly this is just wrong – one of the best and nicest shows that I enjoy even with my kids and Hallmark goes and cancels. It’s just ridiculous. What is their excuse ? Again I’m glad I have my subscription to Netflix I am not paying this extra money to watch the same shows over and over on hallmark
I have been waiting for the return of Cedar Cove. This is so disappointing! This was one of the rare shows you could watch with family. BIG mistake!!!!!
What Idiots Great Series, actually something worth watching.I propose everyone boycott the Hallmark Channel and Crown Media. I am going to tell Dishnetwork to remove my Programming package. I am so sick of paying for all this reality bull crap and lousy programming and having to pay for all these garbage channels and programming. Come on everyone it is time to take back what we all want to watch on television. This generation of TV watchers are so stuck on their selves and this garbage television
I was looking forward to the new season of Cedar Cove! I have watched every episode and I am not happy about this at all!! Why would you just cancel without some kind of finale? Not s good plan for those of us who love hallmark channel and its movies. Hallmark, you don’t want to lose your loyal watchers!
For us fans of the show, that just stinks! I agree with others that wrote expressing, it would be nice to give us dedicated fans a final episode for closure. I’ve read all the Cedar Cove books, & even though the series didn’t follow the books, I loved it! So little consideration for viewers who are Hallmark fans.
Work I like to see my characters return some day you ask??? Oh yes! How about now like say I didn’t know this summer!
I can’t believe this! How can shows that are this great get cancelled!? If they saw that there was a steady decline in viewers then they should have wrapped up the show! Not leave it on a massive cliff hanger! If I could call names here of all sorts I would! Who decided this and did they get their degree out of a cracker Jack box?!!!!!
Hallmark I have only one thing to say to you! YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved Cedar Cove, and wish at least one more season could have been produced to properly end it…I will miss the show!
Horrible decision! Great heartwarming series…..thought Hallmark Channel had more sense than that!
Our family loved Cedar Cove. Beautiful setting and decent storylines. Wish networks would plan cancellations better instead of some doofus at corporate cutting shows after the season with no finality for the fans.
Very sorry to hear Cedar Cove has been cancelled. I do understand about a decrease in ratings being a problem but I sure wished that they had returned one season or a few episodes to finish the story. I sure hope you don’t do that with other series that are on Hallmark.
