Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Was looking forward to new season of Cedar Cove. Very disappointed it was cancelled !
6/3/16 I can not believe you cancelled Cedar Cove, I just found out. I looked forward to this show loved the actors, if you wanted to cancel the show the least you could have done is finish the ending. I do not have any respect for Hallmark in how this was done, you definitely didn’t care about the people who watch Hallmark each week. You should be ashamed of yourself in how this was done.
Does not make any sense why Cedar Cove – such a good & popular show would not return. Hallmark should post the reasons why they canceled. So disappointed! Even my husband who is a former Marine loves this series. It’s not just for women. The scenery is breathtaking & good story lines. It’s the only time you can be swept away from the harsh realities of our world.. Please renew the series.
I am upset that Hallmark did not consider the consequence of cancelling a great show. They apparently do not care about the audience and supporters. Shame on the writers and all that are involved. I agree, why have hallmark if they are just going to cancell a great show and leave the viewers hanging!
one of the cleanest shows and you cancel it. for shame.
Very disappointed Cedar Cove was cancelled. The least Hallmark can do is give us a Cedar Cove movie as a series finale.
I’m not happy!! I was looking forward to the next season!! I’m ready to quit watching hallmark if they aren’t going to continue a series!!! I think this is poor writing to not have closure!! It was left as if another season. I just searched to find out when it would be coming on. Good clean shows are hard to find and to have them end after 3 seasons just isn’t right!!!
Really disappointed to hear that Cedar Cove wasn’t taken on for season 4. I’ve loved every single episode. I can’t even remember one duff character in the whole show. This has been a delight from the start. Such great actors/actresses together in one show. The UK has been showing them as 2 hour long (double eps) shows and we’ve only just been given season 3 only ending with the finale this week 🙁 I’ve been waiting excitedly for each one. I couldn’t believe the way it ended. Terribly sloppy idea by Hallmark to end it there. So some people dropped… Read more »
I am now leery of watching any of the new shows because I am concerned you will just end it with no closure. You should have at least made a movie to tie up all of the ends. Shame on you Hallmark!
Can’t believe there will be no season 4 of Cedar Cove, so many storylines in there that have to be followed up especially Olivia and Paul. Just because your not pulling in the number of viewers you want you shouldn’t think so little of the viewers you have. We need to know what happens.
Please re-new Cedar Cove. Love the characters and the entire show format. I have really been looking forward to the new 2016 shows. Please reconsider renewing .
No it should not have been cancelled. It was about the only decent show on TV today. Most networks shows are about murder, hospital settings, and reality shows. There are no wholesome shows anymore. Do you think my elderly mother wants or cares about any those shows? NO. Every time a good family wholesome show comes out…it usually gets cancelled. There is too much violent in the world now without having to watch it on TV too.
Guess I no longer need the Hallmark channel. Why cancel a clean and great show without an ending of some sorts? Great actors but boo to writers and the others who made the decision to cancel.
I’m just about to watch season 3…saved them up for my holidays from work….thinking I might not bother now….why leave so much unanswered …..one more season to bring an ending to everything….very poor of the writers and hallmark to not give the fans closure…AND….I don’t believe in doing endings on a season 3/4/5 years later….do the decent thing and give fans their endings!!!!
I was waiting to see when this great show would starting again this summer, and did a google search to find out it was cancelled. I am shocked, and very disappointed. This is a wonderful show, and nothing else is on during the summer. To have a show cancelled with over a million watchers during the summer months is just crazy. How could this happen? I would say all this channel cares about is pure greed, and this is ver sad. Millions of viewers watching the show and they cancel it to start another show that may not have a… Read more »
