Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I’m beyond devastated that this show isn’t returning. I fell I need love with this show and need answers and should have at least had a season finale
I loved the books and was so happy they were making it a series o Hallmark. I’m so unhappy that they have cancelled it and hope they will bring it back to Hallmark or to Netflix.
I would love to see Cedar Cove return for at least one more season
Loved Cedar Cove. Was bummed it was cancelled. Too long in between but I knew when it was going to return and waited patiently for it. I wish they would bring it back and have it run a little longer.
I just finished watching the entire season on Netflix and I’m sad that the series ended. It’s definitely one of the best series. Just enough drama to keep you engaged but not too much that it makes you lose interest. Bring it back!
Just today I typed Hallmark into Netflix and my son and I watched Cedar Cove all day for the first time. I am 68, married 26 years, going through a divorce, he’s 36. We have chronic illnesses with pain and extreme fatigue and have to rest most of the day. We turn to Hallmark a lot, for pleasant shows, with likeable actors and actresses. We both loved Cedar Cove and I am so disappointed that I found such a perfect show and now its cancelled. I would love to see some Cedar Grove movies.
I agree that the break in the series is too long and wish you would consider at least a 2 hour movie to bring the different story lines to closure.
LOVE Cedar Cove, the best show on the Hallmark channel. In fact the best show on TV – Remember, these days people pay attention to the advertisers….. Please bring back Cedar Cove
Oh my , what in the Earth someone on this powerful business really want to know my opinion? Why you do care? Who will cancel the Netflix contrat ? Hallmark ,Netflix ,produces?? Well my opinion is of course I would love to see the end , that is the reason we start watch a series . You never by a book with no last pages. Or worse , after you bought a book the writer or editor ask for you do not read the end . No sense , no fair , no right , no honest, but how I… Read more »
I am really upset that you cancelled the show. I just saw tonight (4-1-17) that you cancelled it. I think you should bring it back and I think the reason it was dropping viewers is you wait like a year to bring it back …. that is too long, some people forget easily. Please bring it back or at least give us a good ending.
We really miss Cedar Cove. Wish it hadn’t been cancelled.
I enjoyed the show, but it didn’t seem as family oriented as hallmark is hallmarked for. I think too much sexual implementation was present in the script; like living together before marriage. I hope hallmark continues to stay more family oriented. It’s great to know that I can trust hallmark to be clean & moral. Thank you.
I agree but wish for an ending to the story.
I wish that cedar cove could have continued
It is such a great set of characters and story
I wish you would do a movie to tie up loose ends left by series at least!
I enjoyed Cedar Cove so much. Great cast and scenery. I was shocked that it ended like it did, so many loose ends. I want to know if Olivia chooses Paul, I hope so. Bring it back PLEASE.
Having watched the whole series, it was incredibly frustrating to discover that it ended in a cliffhanger that won’t get resolved. Not cool Hallmark Channel!
