Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I’ve been waiting all this time and had no idea. It was getting a little boring, mainly cause of Jack. You really need to step up your male leads on this channel. He wasn’t bad, just not “Selleck” enough. (And please, I appreciate everyone needing to work, but when you put gay males in your heterosexual male leads, it really doesn’t work.) Not meaning Jack here, just in general in your movies where you keep using the same actors over and over. People aren’t fooled and are getting tired of the same actors and actresses all the time. Bring it back!!! Good TV is hard to find. Great storyline and characters.
How sad that a fantastic show will not be returning. In this day and age of horrible happenings around the world, it was so refreshing to enjoy a happy and uplifting show, please bring it back.
Loved this series! The subtle humor and depth of its characters! Especially the addition of Paul! Disappointed to discover it ended before it truly began…
I watched the three seasons on Netflix and was very disappointed that it is no longer televised. It would have been nice to have had a final episode to complete the story. I really enjoyed the series.
I loved Cedar Cover and hope Hallmark considers bringing it back.
Just finished the series on Netflix. Really wish I would have known before I started that there was no season 4. Loved the show up until it just ended . . . No conclusion. Not sure I will trust Hallmark again for other shows. I will say that I’m sorry you left us all…..
I LOVED Cedar Cove!!!!!! Why cancel? I think it was just delayed in popularity.
I love this show as well as my parents and would like to have been able to watch it this fall you take all the good shows off at your convenience
I loved this programme and it is unfair not to leave us hanging on without a conclusion. Bring it on (season 4)
Wow! I can’t believe they would cancel Cedar Cove and keep some of the same stuff over and over. It would have been nice to have a heads up, and some sort of wrap up.
If they knew the viewers were dropping, they should have ended the show with some kind of a closure.
I just found this TV series on Netflix. I’m just about through the third season. I hate there’s no be Fourth season.☹️
I want to know the rest of the story. It is not fair to leave us all hanging:( please finish the story on Netflix . Please.
So sad that Cedar Cove isn’t returning. Loved the show. My 13 year old granddaughter also enjoyed it. Please reconsider. So many stories left untold.
