This patient has pulled through. Today, CBS renewed the Code Black TV show for a third season.
The medical drama takes place in a Los Angeles ER plagued by a staggering influx of patients that often outweighs the limited resources available to the devoted doctors and nurses who work there. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Rob Lowe, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Harry Ford, Luis Guzman, Melanie Chandra, William Allen Young, Boris Kodjoe, and Jillian Murray.
Over the past two years, Code Black has dipped significantly in the ratings. Season one averaged a 1.27 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.11 million viewers.
The show could have been cancelled but was renewed with some creative tweaks and cast changes. Season two continued to struggle and only brought in an average of 0.97 in the 18-49 demo and 5.98 million viewers. That’s a near 25% drop in the ratings.
While the ratings have been poor, the series does seem to have some very devoted fans with its fans. When we asked viewers if they’d watch a third season, 96% said “yes.”
Those voters have now gotten their wish. According to Deadline, ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios co-produce the program and CBS was able to work out a reduced licensing deal for season three. Word is that CBS execs liked the writers’ pitch for season three.

I love Code Black. I think it is one of the greater medical dramas on television. Thank you very much for giving it another chance.
So glad it has been renewed. Love the show.
Absolutely will continue to watch Code Black every dvr’d show. This show is so accurate, as a retired Nurse Practitioner, it blows me away. I’ve worked ER in SoCal and this is a great depiction. My daughter is also an ED RN at a huge University ER. Awesome show.
So glad to hear that this show has been renewed! Thank you. C’mon people START WATCHING!! This show is 1000 times better than all the “reality” crap on TV these days. Hope “Code Black” will be renewed for many, many years to come!!!
THANK YOU so very much to whomever is responsible for deciding that Code Black will continue!! This just made my day!!!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. This is a great show. Do a little more advertising to secure more viewers!!!
Thank goodness the CBS executives woke up and listened to their viewers. This is a great show. Hope it continues for years.
This is a great show.
Glad to see the show was picked up, I have always enjoyed the show and the writing, very entertaining and fast paced, there have been a few changes to adjust to from season 1 to season 2. It can sometimes take a little time to know the characters, hopefully the show will endure
I have always enjoyed the show, I like the story lines and the characters, fast paced. Glad to see it was picked up
GREAT NEWS! Best medical show on TV. Never thought I’d buy into this when It started but the storylines pulled me in and I have seen every episode since 1:1. Hopefully there will be more exposure of the show and cast thru the summer for promotion. Maybe CBS’s The Talk! Maybe a Sunday nite 9pm slot for repeats so more people can find this Gem. Wonderfully scripted and acted. Develop the supporting cast characters more and quit looking to bring in big stars. Maybe a few scenes each episode away from the ER would breathe a little more caring for… Read more »
WONDERFUL !!!! I am clapping and soooo happy for the renewal of Code Black. My husband and I never miss an episode. I loved it from the beginning and thought it even got better when Rob Lowe joined the cast. CBS is the best ! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. Ratings should come from an older age group. Keep up the great work Code Black. We enjoy every minute and hope it continues for many more seasons.
Now THAT is my Mum’s MAGIC working for me!!! I lost my Mum to Stage 4 Breast Cancer early this year, and she was well aware of my passion for Code Black. I love you so much Mum. And to Michael Seitzman Ryan McGarry Marti Noxon Linda Goldstein Knowlton, and all the production staff, and to all the cast including Marcia Gaye Harden Luis Guzman Rob Lowe and William Allen Young, to name only a few, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your truly inspirational storytelling, and to ALL YOU CODE BLACK FANS who take the time to post your passion… Read more »
