Mum’s the word at Angels Memorial. How will the Code Black TV show on CBS handle the absence of Bonnie Somerville’s Christa Lorenson and Raza Jaffrey’s Neal Hudson? By not mentioning the characters, at all, according to EP Michael Seitzman. Code Black season two premieres Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 10:00pm ET/PT on CBS.
The showrunner told TV Line, “We just never found a good way to address it.” The writing staff felt jamming in a line about Christa and Raza moving on was too much exposition, according to the report. The medical drama stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzman, Melanie Chandra, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Jillian Murray, Boris Kodjoe, and William Allen Young. Rob Lowe is joining in the second season.
The actors were let go after the first season, as part of a re-tooling needed, to secure a second season renewal from the Tiffany Network. It was a difficult task for Seitzman to let the pair go. Here is more from TV Line:
Although the actors were let go, “You have to remember these are friends of ours,” Seitzman sighs. “This is tough. Raza and I became good friends. We’re still good friends. He lives right up the street from me, and my wife and I have dinner with him and his wife. We have a personal relationship. That was the hardest phone call I ever made. It was awful for me. I hated making the phone call to Bonnie, too, but Raza and I are really tight.”
What do you think? were you a fan of the Christa and Neal characters? Do you plan to watch the second season of the Code Black TV series, even though Sommerville and Jaffrey will not be returning? Tell us.
After two episodes, am still missing Raza and Bonnie. Don’t like the Boris Kodjoe character…didn’t like him first season, like him even less now. Enjoy Rob Lowe, but not as much as Raza. Pretty much think the changes are going to sink the show.
Season two will be worse for letting Raza and Bonnie go. I have watched the 1st episode of season two and they are sorely missed. I will not be watching anymore. The one thing I liked was Raza and Bonnie. CBS made a huge mistake. The chemistry is gone.
Disappointed Raza and Bonnie will not be back. They had class and portrayed genuine, human emotions. Will miss these great actors.
I really enjoyed watching them on the show
Very disappointing! Now the chemistry of the team is gone. . .I greatly dislike the character of Dr. Pinkney and Mario can be annoying as well. Christa was the only mature resident on the team – and I’m not talking about age. Raza balanced Leanne perfectly. (I am glad she’s back where she belongs) I loved the relationship between Neal and Christa and looked forward to seeing how they would work out their problems. Not sure I’ll watch many more episodes, though, if this week is any indication of the rest of the season. I never could watch NCIS without… Read more »
They were my favorite characters. Not so interested now in the millennial trend of child doctors.
Very disappointed!
Disappointed that Bonnie and Raza will not return ! I thought their relationship was a very strong point of the series !
Love the show, will keep watching. Really miss Christa and Raza, big mistake getting rid of them.
I love Rob Lowe, but will really miss Raza and Bonnie.
Big fan of show first season but with Raza and Krista gone not so much.
Loved the show last season, and am really disappointed that Raza and Christa won’t be back. Liked both characters very much and don’t see Rob Lowe filling that void.
I doubt that I will watch with Raza gone . Dr Neil Hudson was not only good looking but a kind and sensitive doctor with an accent I could listen to all day! Please, is there no way you could bring him back?
Rob Lowe will not make up for a character we have got to know and love.
Have really enjoyed this show after watching it this summer. Looking forward to watching season 2 this fall. Good solid writing.
I am very disappointed that Raza (Neal) won’t be returning. He has one of those rare, lovely voices I could listen to all day long. I am now watching the first season, one episode after the other. It’s not just the British accent. There are plenty of those. There is a quality to his voice, in this character especially, of wisdom and compassion. I do like Rob Lowe a lot too, was a loyal Grinder fan, but its unlikely the character Raza played will be the kind of character Rob will play. I want a character like Neal in this… Read more »
Show is boring now. The cast has no substance what so ever. You took two out of three best characters. Rob Lowe doesn’t belong. It is a sad day. You should have asked the viewers and not assume. I will not be watching anymore
