Jenna Bans wrote the story for The Family TV series finale, “What Took So Long.” The teleplay is by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain. The episode was directed by Paul McGuigan.
The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.
ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.
What do you think? What do you want to happen in The Family TV series finale? Do you think it should have been renewed by ABC?
I loved this show…. sad to see it go!!
I’m my goodness, they have to renew this. Our family is dying thinking we won’t know what happens next. If they don’t renew some other network needs to finish at leat one more season.
I just watched the finale and it was a perfect set up for a season 2. ABC was wrong to cancel it. Did they see the season finale?
I am absolutely disappointed that the show is being canceled. The Family is one of the best shows on television, and for the last episode to be so filled with drama especially when we found out that Adam was still alive. It’s not fair, uggh. I really do hate that I’m never going to know the end of this story. This show had about at least 2 seasons left in it. Well it was fun while it lasted.
Please reconsider renewing the show. It was my favorite new show of the season. I never missed it. I loved it. So many story lines, and every week was a surprise. Excellent show. Please renew it. You have new story lines from the finale to keep it going.
I’ve been following this show since day one. I think that with the way the show ended tonight, they should bring back at least a second season. The fans who follow it, such as myself and my mom, enjoy it. We want to know what happens next. I understand having low ratings. But, be fair to us who do watch!
Was holding my breath to see what next week would bring only to find out it’s been cancelled? Hoping someone brings this back. Great show, just didn’t get enough exposure!
I am very disappointed in ABC The Family and Nashville what the heck is up with this network???
how can u cancel the best show. Im so upset, i want more.
Very disappointed… Watched this show from the beginning… Shocked it has such low ratings..loved it…very captivating!!
Very disappointed that this was a finale and that the show has been canceled. It left a lot of questions and a show should not end in that way. Very very disappointed
How could you cancel a show with a season finale like that? we want more!
I knew he wasn’t dead from the very first show. How can they cancle a show before the first season is over? That was a really good last first season episode. It should be a law that a show can’t end without it being written to end. I have up tv before looks like im going to do it again.
The show was really good. It kept me intrigued. The way it ended left me curious and I really wish that ABC had not cancelled the show. Do they know how many viewers probably recorded the show? Bring back the show please!
I wish they would continue
