The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

Extremely upset!!!- I went to watch tonight’s episode not realizing that last week WAS the last one. No conclusion to the long movie that I wasted my time watching now. I have never watched anything but shows like American Idol. Found one with “The Family” that had such superb acting and had me so excited to watch the following week and you left us like this. I will never watch a new series again on ABC.
This is very disappointing, and a great show. I don’t feel like it was advertised enough, but many people I know were starting to watch it. This was a great show, and I’m very upset they cancelled it!

Adam is going to come back who killed the reporter, mom is going crazy and daughter has gone wild. I need my Sunday fix Cuz this family is crazyer then mine

How can you cancel such a great show as The Family. Myself and five of my friends can’t wait until Monday mornings to get together and discuss Sunday’s episode. We all love it so much. What a disappointment. Maybe you should try a different night. What a well made show. Please bring it back, so many of us love it. How could you leave us in the learch.
So upset, not watching ABC again. This was a great show, leaving you eager for the next episode. How can they just end it like that. No it wasn’t enough closure, so disappointed!
Why would this show be cancelled?? It was a great show and pulled in all levels/ages of viewers. I’m so bummed it will not be back!

This is a big mistake. Give people time to even know the show exists! These big corporate channels dont give things a chance for too long. I get forced to watch trash reality TV shows because companies like this take away the really good ones! I hope it gets picked up by another channel… I will tell everyone that I know to tune in!
I am really getting disappointed in ABC….yet another awesome show cancelled. First Resurrection now The family. I feel like maybe I should just stop watching this channel. I don’t want to get interested in a show and have it cancelled.

I think The Family should be kept in the ABC lineup. It is in my top 5 shows on ABC. My wife and I watch The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, Black-ish and The Family. The other shows aired on ABC do not interest us. We are very disappointed this show was cancelled.
Have been waiting for the finale. Last episode did not satisfy closure. Too bad great acting is not appreciated by the masses.
Favorite show, superb acting, and I was searching for the show this week, not realizing it had ended. No conclusion. I am furious I watched all season to not see an ending to this long movie.
I loved the show….I think it should be renewed….
I hope that this show isn’t completely done. I couldn’t view the episodes when they aired but I bought them on iTunes. I need to know what happens to them when Adam does come back home? What will happen to Ben? Will Danny ever see his brother back? Does John know everything that has been happening? I don’t want the show to be over, the characters have become important to me and the show is too good.
Once again I’ve invested time in a series that gets cancelled after one season and with no resolution. From here on out I’ll just wait until a show makes it to its third season and then watch on iTunes.
I never watch network TV, but I thought this show rated a shot. Got hooked the first episode and haven’t missed a minute ever since. So I’m very disappointed that not only did it get the axe, but they didn’t even have the decency to wrap up the story. Come on…..not fair to those of us who watched diligently and got invested in the Warren family.
