In the Heat of the Night could be coming back to the small screen. Deadline reports a new TV series based on the 1967 film is in the works from People v. O.J. Simpson writer Joe Robert Cole.
The original movie starred Sidney Poitier as a black police detective sent to investigate a murder in Mississippi. The film went on to win the 1967 Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Actor for Rod Steiger. The movie was later adapted into a TV series starring Carroll O’Connor and Howard Rollins. The show ran from 1988 to 1992 on NBC and on CBS until 1995.
Cole is developing the new version of In the Heat of the Night with MGM Television, filmmaker Tate Taylor, and produces Warren Littlefield and John Norris.
What do you think? Are you a fan of In the Heat of the Night? Would you watch the new TV series?
Still waiting…watching reruns almost everyday.
We realize time waits for no man, that being said, we would watch new show.
We love the show with the current stars.
I love the show.iknow some characters have past on.but bubba -sweet-parker-and many others that was on the show could make it work.
I would watch the remake I love the show new fresh faces
Loved the TV series!! How about bringing back the original actors such as Denise Nicholas? Write her in as mayor, now, and of course Bill is deceased. Just write as if its 20 years later! It was a great story and had a lot to say about racial issues. Very brilliantly acted and produced!! You will have a mega-hit!!
Love the show would definitely watch any new remake. I’ve been wishing that they would remake this show I think it will do very well.
GREAT. LOVE THE SHOW. WILL KEEP WATCH

Yes I love this program and all the old cast members.
I would definitely watch this. I feel like this show has enough of a distance from any nostalgia critics that would hate a reboot as strongly as say a show like CHARMED. Doing a reboot of this just seems like they are doing a new show since many people will not even remember it.
I’m totally down for an ‘In The Heat Of The Night’ reboot, Hollywood may recycle ideas, but there are plenty of original series out there too… So I don’t see the problem.
ITHOTN was a show I used to religiously watch with my grandfather so I’d literally love this!
Is This All Hollywood Can Do Is Rehash Come On
Apparently so even though there been a few that I have liked some.
I will watch it
