Are The Jetsons headed for the big screen? Variety reports Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon has been hired to develop a new movie based on the classic TV series.
From Hanna-Barbera, the animated show follows a family living in a future filled with advanced technology like flying cars, holograms, and robots. The original series ran from 1962 to 1963 and was then briefly revived for syndication in the mid-1980s.
Vernon, a veteran of animation, has worked as a co-director on Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. He’ll be developing The Jetsons movie for Warner Bros., who own the Hanna-Barbera library.
This isn’t the first time the cartoon has been brought to the big screen. In 1990, Universal Pictures released Jetsons: The Movie and the series has been adapted into several TV and direct-to-video films.
