We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I loved this show, there is too much of the cop, lawyer, and doctor shows
this was different it should continue
For the love of G-d, would someone -anyone – please try to complete the following dialogue: Robert to wife # 2, trying to cover for the fact that he’s spending Christmas day with wife #1 – “Honey, I know we just got married, and I know what an incredibly special day Christmas is, and how virtually every family – at least every Christian one – spends that day together, and I know you parents are throwing a big Christmas dinner, and I know every Christmas morning virtually since you were born you look forward to opening presents under the Christmas… Read more »
My husband and I, as well as my 86 year old mother, are all extremely disappointed in the cancellation of Lonstar! This was the one and only new show that we found so brilliant! Every aspect about the program was done so well – great theme, plot, acting, clever story and truly sophisticated!
Its sad to think our broadcasters have to target mindless, small thinking, reality-show viewers!
We may as well keep our television off this season! So much for FOX TV for us!!
Disappointed from Texas to Michigan!
Yesterday my hairdresser asked me what TV I was watching, and the first words off my lips were “Lone Star”. It was the only show of the new crop that I found memorable after one episode, as did my husband. This show should be picked up by cable; it’s obviously too sophisticated and too specialized for the broadcast networks, which pander completely to the narrow demographics of advertisers.
I am really devastated by the cancellation. Why? Great cast, super acting, and a plot so different than those often used.
Give it another chance—PLEASE!
Lone Star was going to be “THE” show of the fall for me to watch. Like some of the series that Fox has had, including Prison Break and Lie to Me, Lone Star was filled with intrigue, twists, drama, and a little soap opera appeal. I am very disappointed that it has been cancelled and wonder if another network will opt to purchase the remaining episodes. It’s a shame. I am sick to death of the doctor shows and the others that have remained for so many years, and felt that Lone Star had fresh appeal, with a talented cast… Read more »
Cant believe Fox cancelled this smart witty show. A real shame.
Call me uptight, but I watched both episodes and I just couldn’t get into the show. It felt really unrelatable to me. I can’t explain exactly what it was – the actors were strong and the concept was solid. But, I can’t say that I’ll be sad to see this one go.
I am in agreement 100 percent. I was looking forward to the show but something was missing, so to speak. I am not sorry to see it go
With much anticipation (due to all of the media hype), I tuned into the first episode. About at the halfway point, I tuned out. Interesting premise, but there was a lack of intensity (you need to start out a series with a *bang* to grab the viewer); the storyline was EXTREMELY slow (there were several moments of nauseating contemplation/ long pauses); in summary, there was NOTHING that compelled me to watch. It was also disjointed due to the fact that the main character had to DRIVE 30 miles to claim his alter-ego. I don’t know if ANY viewer would be… Read more »
I looked forward to the pilot, enjoyed the first and second series and was really getting into the corruption and drama. John Voight and David Keith are great actors, the younger ones had a good chance of exploring their talents. FOX is wrong … hope another channel picks up this show .. it’s a keeper!!!
Cannot believe they cancelled this show. It was a great show and a refreshing change from the detective, hospital, family life is so perfect yet so complicated programs on every chanel during prime time. Big mistake FOX
Lonestar holds onto you with the two separate lives of one conflicted con. “Bob” is a master at swindling people, but what makes him a compelling character is he has a desperate desire to live outside of that con-artist life. No need for star power in this show… Jon Voight and David Keith (best known for playing Richard Gere’s navy buddy in An Officer and a Gentlemen) are the only “ah-hah! I know that guy” actors and arguably the only weak and over-the-top actors on the show. The young cast is exceptional and well on their way to being recognized… Read more »
This show was one of the best crime dramas. Our groups and social network, which consists of over 4000 people will not be watching Fox anymore for cancelling Lone Star.
I did not watch the show and here’s why I didn’t give it a shot. I think when you watch a new show it should have a main character that you like. However in the previews the guy is a con-artist who is cheating on his wife because it’s all a con, yet he is in love with both his wife and his girlfriend. On this premise alone you lost half the female audience. If they had shown some likeable characters in the previews it might have gotten more people to tune in. But from what I saw, the previews… Read more »
I agree with Caligirl. It turn me off completely. Sorry FOX.
Wrong. I am female and loved this show. How can you even comment on a show that you admit you haven’t watched. We all know that in the end the women will get him and I was looking forward to watching this show as the plot thickens. The acting was impressive and much better than some of these dingy nitwit comedies and reality shows.
This show had twists, unpredictability, good young unknown actors and the duped family scion Jon Voight, who got too much camera time for the same schtick he did on ’24’. the show moved with aplomb and covered most bases of rural and small town corruption. Was looking forward to at least 13 episodes to develop the characters, but the n0-name cast couldn’t overcome their invisibility. If their is justice, DTV will grab it. It was a damn good show.
