We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I am pretty sad that this show was canceled. I agree with everyone saying that it had to compete with some big time shows. The thing I liked about it was that it has a different concept from all other shows. Shows right now are about finding the “bad guys” and this showed the other side and how one wanted to get away.
I wasn’t sure about it after the first episode, but after the second I wanted to see what was going to happen. Now I’ll never know
I am one of those DVR’ers and I loved this show. It was interesting with a strong cast. Shelving it after 2 episodes is commons for FOX….over the past 10 yrs they have cancelled so many good shows that are up against reality shows. There are 5 shows at the same time Monday on network and
cable, so I was catching Lone Star on Saturdays. Bring this back when DWTS is over.
I thought it was a interesting show……..sad to see it go.
Good show! Great acting – needs to be in a different time slot. Fox should bring it back.
I was absolutely captivated by the new show, Lone Star. A Dallas, Dynasty excitement with a new twist. The casting is excellent. David Keith and Jon Voight are playing characters that best fit their ages, It is an outstanding show, I have watched both episodes. I hope Fox brings it back maybe in a new time slot but I recorded both shows and watched later. Or maybe one of the cable networks could buy and continue it.
This show deserved a little more time to get off the ground. I think it had a lot of potential. I would much rather watch Lone Star than Lie To Me!!
A very bad move to cancel so early. Give it a chance. I think the show has tremendous potential.
i was sorry to see this show cancelled. the characters were just evolving and i really like the end of the second episode and could certainly see watching a third.. best show so far this season.
I think what went wrong is that the networks were depending on a show that was up against “Dancing with the Stars” to shine with the 18-49 year olds. Since we know that the mind set of that yearly age group is to watch a reality show – that was high expectations. “Lone Star” was too intense for instant gradification. You had to actually watch the show and think. And, as usual, the networks and advertisers keep forgetting that those of us over 49 are still of a generation where we appreciate creative writing, good acting and a good continuous… Read more »
This was an excellent show! I am so upset they cancelled it! I really hope it gets a second chance! There were some great actors in it and the plot was different from any other show that I know off! Bring it back please!
I’m not surprised at all! I decided after the previews that this show was trash! Who wants to see a show about a fraudster who, on top of ripping everyone he knows off, is cheating on his wife with a chick that has no idea he’s married. It’s just sick, I mean what have we become as a society if we accept this kind of garbage as “entertainment”! I’m actually really glad that it got such bad ratings because that means that enough people out there have better taste than that!
This was a great show. Not only did it have to compete with monday night football, but dancing with the stars as well as the event (which had been advertised FOREVER). I wish a cable network would’ve gotten this show, they would’ve given it a chance. Extremely disappointing!
Short sited on the part of Kevin Riley. Great show, well written, well acted and intelligent.
Not given a chance, at all, in a time slot to lose…
Whoever made that decision to cancel such an interesting new series should be cancelled!
This was by far the best new show of the season with a creative plot that made a change from hum drum series that keep being shown.
It amazes me that what could have a become a cult series is not given the chance to reach it’s full potential. Probably fae to creative for the typical viewer to understand, what do we do have it reinstated?
I watched the first episode and was torn. I do like James Wolk’s character but found him difficult to believe or like because he starts out with relationships in two towns where he has already scammed everyone. He seems conflicted but the only reason that he is turning over a new leaf is due to the relationship with the blonde and not guilt over all of the people he has robbed. It might have been received better if they developed more foundation before just dropping the plot in the middle of 2 cons.
I am not surprised at the outcome.
