Tonight, Numb3rs finishes off its sixth season with episode 118, “Cause and Effect.” Will the show be back next season? A decision hasn’t been made yet but lots of people are betting that it will be cancelled.
Numb3rs follows FBI Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), who helps the authorities solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series debuted in January 2005 and has long been a successful player for CBS on Friday nights. In season one, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 11.1 million viewers. They went up in season two, with an average of a 3.3 rating and 11.7 million viewers. Viewership has fallen since then however and last season, Numb3rs scored a 2.2 and 10.2 million.
This season, Numb3rs’ ratings have dropped further still — averaging a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers each week. As a result of the decline in ratings, CBS (which is having a very good season) decided to cut back on the number of episodes and reduced their season order from 22 to 16 installments.

The official reason for the decrease is that CBS had too much programming and needed space to try out new series. Next week, Numb3rs’ timeslot will be occupied by a new show, Miami Medical.
CBS has maintained that the fate of Numb3rs hasn’t been decided yet but, considering the series’ production costs and ratings, it seems fairly certain that the show is done.
In fact, ABC and FOX are betting on it. The networks have already cast Morrow and Krumholtz in new pilots.
Morrow will star in a dramatic pilot called The Whole Truth for ABC, opposite Joely Richardson. He’ll play a fiercely competitive and successful defense attorney who is close friends with his equally talented courtroom adversary (Richardson). Whole Truth is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Meanwhile, Krumholtz has been cast in a comedy pilot for FOX called Tax Man. The project’s being produced by Ron Howard and stars Krumholtz as an IRS Agent who’s trying to find nobility in his work. Judy Greer recently joined the cast.
If CBS does decide to bring Numb3rs back for another season, both Morrow and Krumholtz will be obligated to return. However, the other networks wouldn’t cast them in new pilots unless they felt it was a very strong possibility that Numb3rs would indeed be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you like to see Numb3rs return for a seventh season or is it time to say goodbye to the Eppes?

Numbers is the only Friday night show worth watching on TV. I have not watched its replacement as yet and have no intention of doing so.
There are too few tv shows worth watching and no matter how many chanels there are, there is little intelegence in most shows. To take Numbers off would be a big mistake. But then, most of television today is a big mistake.
Don’t cancel because Numb3rs is amazing and I won’t want to watch anything else on TV but Numb3rs! So I say keep it you have many viewers that will be disaponted if it’s canceled I speak for many when I say we all love Numb3rs
omg please please keep keep keep this show it is one of the best shows out there why is it that all the shows people really like get cancelled and all these stupid crapy shows are kept unblieveable
DO NOT CANCEL!!!!! It is my favorite show!
I will miss Numbers. I agree that 6 years is a nice run, but I loved all the mathematical talk – it made me feel smarter than I am. Most shows today are so stupid. The show that David Krumholtz is going to be on sounds terrible. Numbers had a great ensemble cast and I hope to see all of them again soon, especially Peter MacNichol.
Here’s a thought – we can all read books rather than watch TV!
Time to say Good Bye…. as hard as it is…it’s time to move on and grow… 5 to 6 years is long enough…Numb3rs was good but you need to go out on a high note…getting a little stale. Glad to hear that 2 of the top 3 stars are moving on and can’t wait to see them in something else, streaching their wings…hope Jud, who is fabulous gets a show also…will miss him the most.
Number’s must continue—–great cast!!!!!!!!
One can actually learn from this program—–
I think that Numb3rs should have a seventh seasons because I don’t want the show to be cancel. I LOVED NUMB3RS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Numb3rs is still one of my favorite shows on tv. I hope that do not decide to cancel it. Unfortunatly it all depends on how much more money the network can make. Compared to some of the lousy previews of new shows, numb3rs would still make a better show than most of them.
I will hate it if Numb3rs is cancelled. I love this show and it is the only reason I watch Friday night TV. Don’t it just figure? Get a good cast, a good plot line, interesting stuff (somewhat Intellectual?) and they cut it off…whooppee for sneaky ghosts and hauntings….give me some good plots with good actors!
Bring back Numbers. The premise is different from all the other shows. I did not like the recent remake of the leads with shirts hanging out and unshaven faces!
I watched Miami Medical for a few minutes and turned it off. It OD’d on medical jargon, with little character development — at least none that I cared about.
I just got interested in teh show this year, hope CBS changes its mind. If not the 2 stars seem to have their future set with shows involving Buckheimer and ron howard.
This show is intelligent and should return
KEEP, KEEP, KEEP it. Best show on TV. We look forward to Friday nights just to watch this show.
