Tonight, Numb3rs finishes off its sixth season with episode 118, “Cause and Effect.” Will the show be back next season? A decision hasn’t been made yet but lots of people are betting that it will be cancelled.
Numb3rs follows FBI Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), who helps the authorities solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series debuted in January 2005 and has long been a successful player for CBS on Friday nights. In season one, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 11.1 million viewers. They went up in season two, with an average of a 3.3 rating and 11.7 million viewers. Viewership has fallen since then however and last season, Numb3rs scored a 2.2 and 10.2 million.
This season, Numb3rs’ ratings have dropped further still — averaging a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers each week. As a result of the decline in ratings, CBS (which is having a very good season) decided to cut back on the number of episodes and reduced their season order from 22 to 16 installments.

The official reason for the decrease is that CBS had too much programming and needed space to try out new series. Next week, Numb3rs’ timeslot will be occupied by a new show, Miami Medical.
CBS has maintained that the fate of Numb3rs hasn’t been decided yet but, considering the series’ production costs and ratings, it seems fairly certain that the show is done.
In fact, ABC and FOX are betting on it. The networks have already cast Morrow and Krumholtz in new pilots.
Morrow will star in a dramatic pilot called The Whole Truth for ABC, opposite Joely Richardson. He’ll play a fiercely competitive and successful defense attorney who is close friends with his equally talented courtroom adversary (Richardson). Whole Truth is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Meanwhile, Krumholtz has been cast in a comedy pilot for FOX called Tax Man. The project’s being produced by Ron Howard and stars Krumholtz as an IRS Agent who’s trying to find nobility in his work. Judy Greer recently joined the cast.
If CBS does decide to bring Numb3rs back for another season, both Morrow and Krumholtz will be obligated to return. However, the other networks wouldn’t cast them in new pilots unless they felt it was a very strong possibility that Numb3rs would indeed be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you like to see Numb3rs return for a seventh season or is it time to say goodbye to the Eppes?

Numb3rs was better than most of the shows there… ‘cept ghost whisperer… they really shouldnt cancel ghost whisperer… or numb3rs… they have really good story lines and fans love them…
I think Numb3r’s should return. It’s one of the few show’s that my husband and I both agree on and look forward too each week. I think it would be stupid to cancel it. I think you should start canceling all these stupid reality shows. Who really watches those anyways? Pretty soon there won’t be anything good on tv to watch because it seems like every station is canceling all the good shows.
PLEASE bring back numbers and cold case!! we loved them!!!!!
This is the only decent show on Fri. nights so if Numb3rs is gone, so am I. Thanks for the years that it was on!
I love Numbers!!! Bring it back!
it’s a keeper!!!!!
I loved NUMB3RS every Fri. night. Would get settled in for whatever else I could find until NUMB3RS came on! It was a super, intelligent show and it was definitely one of my favorites and I feel like CBS is making a mistake cancelling it! Of course there’s nothing we can do except watch another channel. Who can see Krumzholtz in a comedy! He’s too intelligent!
i did not know about numb3rs until 2009 b/c my teacher show it in class then after tha i love that show i wish it have more.
Numb3rs is one of my favorite shows, the way the last episode took everyone to different locations I just thought they were taking a break. I sincerely hope it is brought back and am looking forward to the new adventures ahead.
Numb3rs is also my father’s favorite show and he is dying of pulmonary phibrosis. He enjoys it so much and soon will not be able to leave his home. I always look forward to discussing the show with him.
We LOVE NUMB3RS, and are bummed it’s not coming back. That CBS is producing yet ANOTH3R medical show is typical of the tv exec brainlessness. They have a really great franchise in Numb3rs – great cast, great writing (most of the time), and
my wife and me looked forward to friday night TV –
now it’s just rent another DVD.
Hopefully, the Epps brothers will re-unite with the rest of the crew,
they really add spice to the stew, and give us something to chew.
We really look forward to seeing this show. I shows some great things and many life lessons. Great stars and we would love to see it stay!!
i looked forward in watching numbers and cold case… seems like all the good shows are being taken off the air.
You know when i look at the show numb3r’s it isn’t something that kids should watch, i am 18 years old and i am intriged by this whole idea. Besides doing the CSI kind of things that have been showing they also show many other things about applied mathematics, astronmy and basically just life lessons, it’s almost like when you have a great teacher. They are more then just a teacher of the subject, they teach you other things. That’s what numb3rs did for me and made me find out what i want to be. It may not be close… Read more »
I really liked this program and would like it to continue. Also, I like Cold Case and would like that back too. Bring them back—do not look at the medical programs that are on now. Bring back NUMBERS and COLD CASE——Marty May
yes bring it back! I love Numb3rs that is a great show don’t cancel it!!!!!
