Tonight, Numb3rs finishes off its sixth season with episode 118, “Cause and Effect.” Will the show be back next season? A decision hasn’t been made yet but lots of people are betting that it will be cancelled.
Numb3rs follows FBI Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), who helps the authorities solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series debuted in January 2005 and has long been a successful player for CBS on Friday nights. In season one, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 11.1 million viewers. They went up in season two, with an average of a 3.3 rating and 11.7 million viewers. Viewership has fallen since then however and last season, Numb3rs scored a 2.2 and 10.2 million.
This season, Numb3rs’ ratings have dropped further still — averaging a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers each week. As a result of the decline in ratings, CBS (which is having a very good season) decided to cut back on the number of episodes and reduced their season order from 22 to 16 installments.

The official reason for the decrease is that CBS had too much programming and needed space to try out new series. Next week, Numb3rs’ timeslot will be occupied by a new show, Miami Medical.
CBS has maintained that the fate of Numb3rs hasn’t been decided yet but, considering the series’ production costs and ratings, it seems fairly certain that the show is done.
In fact, ABC and FOX are betting on it. The networks have already cast Morrow and Krumholtz in new pilots.
Morrow will star in a dramatic pilot called The Whole Truth for ABC, opposite Joely Richardson. He’ll play a fiercely competitive and successful defense attorney who is close friends with his equally talented courtroom adversary (Richardson). Whole Truth is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Meanwhile, Krumholtz has been cast in a comedy pilot for FOX called Tax Man. The project’s being produced by Ron Howard and stars Krumholtz as an IRS Agent who’s trying to find nobility in his work. Judy Greer recently joined the cast.
If CBS does decide to bring Numb3rs back for another season, both Morrow and Krumholtz will be obligated to return. However, the other networks wouldn’t cast them in new pilots unless they felt it was a very strong possibility that Numb3rs would indeed be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you like to see Numb3rs return for a seventh season or is it time to say goodbye to the Eppes?

I hope Numbers is renewed for another season. Hands down, it’s my favorite show on TV. I was bummed when Ghost Whisper was cancelled but thought I’d at least have Numbers to still look forward too on Friday nights. Please bring it back!!!
Please bring back numb3rs made me think all ages love 2 watch
Bring back numbers. Get rid of the reality shows and crap like dancing with the stars, Americas next top model and so on. All of my family enjoy this show we like using our brains.
There are more than enough brainless “reality” shows cluttering the airwaves, please keep an intelligent TV show on the air!! It is a good thing to exercise those brain cells!!
Bring back Numbers we miss it.
Please keep Numb3rs! With all of the other “reality” crap on TV, this is one of the few shows we can watch as a family and have a conversation afterwards. Please, with all of the focus on profits, understand that families also watch TV, view the comercials, and even buy the products advertized. To eliminate this show is to continue to dumb down the shows on network TV.
YES, NUMB3RS HAVE TO CAME BACK, WE REALLY NEED THIS PROGRAM, PLEASE WHAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO DO TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN, NUMBERS HAVE TO COME BACK.
I think that CBS should have the good sense to bring numbers back and put the line up back to where it was following another hit show and all its glory numbers is a great show. Lately all the good shows are being cancelled and alot of nonsense tv is being left.
Please bring the show back. It was time they showed that brilliant men could also be sexy. The kids in this world need to know that it is ok to use your mind and that you would not be penalized for it in society.
GW and Numb3rs?, that’s it, I won’t be watching CBS’ new show lineup on Fridays.
GW,Flashpoint and Numb3ers were the best mix. Can’t stand Medium, why did they pick it up from NBC? No they’re not the same! Except for the season four blunder GW was great!
Numb3ers forced you to pay attention, unlike most shows where they expect you to put your brain in neutral.
What are they smoking down there in LA LA Land?
Bring the show back.
This was such a great show. It was well written but esentially what I enjoyed was the comardiere between the brothers and the dad Shows like these are hard to come by. Why didn’t you try to freshen it up instead of canceling? Shame on you all
“Numbers” needs to come back! It is a really awesome show and I really like how they breakdown the math to show how it works. This show makes you think and get involved, not too many shows out there that do that anymore. Wake up and bring back a definite hit show!
BRING NUMBERS BACK!!!!!! I love this show, and miss intellegent tv. Enough with the Bachlor crap and reality tv. Instead of getting rid of Numbers and Ghost Whisperer, get rid of the bone heads controlling the lineup!
I TOTALLY agree with you Stacey. Reality shows need to create their own network that runs only reality shows and leave the other networks alone to leave those spots open for real entertaining programs.
Bring Numb3rs back. The good shows are always canceled and the stupid shows are always kept on. It’s time to stop allowing that to happen
