The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I thought this was an excellent show. I seems that shows that require thought are always canceled. Perhaps it will be shown on another channel
I agree with everyone, the show was awesome. It made you think about thing a whole new way. It was entertaining and yet informative. I am going to miss watching it. I hope they do bring it bac but i know they won’t. A good show always gets the axe, NOT FAIR.
Perception is the kind of show that is not only highly entertaining but educational as well. It is solidly rooted in Cognitive Neuroscience, and when you throw in the cast of talented actors that obviously have wonderful working chemistry. …. the result in my humble opinion is a winner. …. a show of substance. If given the opportunity a show with longevity. I feel it was very short sighted on behalf of TNT to cancel, stupid really. Perception was the only one of any kind of substance worth watching on TNT. I sincerely hope they will recognize this and reconsider… Read more »
I too loved Perception. I have a daughter with mental illness and this show did a great job of presenting a good representation. The characters were well developed and I felt a great connection. I really hope another network will pick up the show. Boo TNT!
I really liked this show, I think they should at least bring it back for one more season to finalize the show.
i totally agree with you
i hope perception to cuntinue
Unbelievable! They keep canceling great shows and keeping dreadful, mind numbing ones.
So many of my family and friends, of different ages, are huge friends of Perception. It is the one show that our teenage son will sit and watch with us. What a shame – we hope someone else has the good sense to pick it up and continue telling Dr. Pierce’s stories.
This show became an addiction to me right from the very first episode. Whoever makes the decisions on axing shows like this need their head examined!!! The cast and storylines surpass excellence. I wonder what will be created to replace it………..another brain numbing “reality” show perhaps? or maybe a new TOWIE??? One thing is certain – it’ll be junk. VERY BIG MISTAKE TNT, considering the amount of alternative tv channels that we viewers can tune into instead.
ALL THE JUNK ON TV AND YOU FINALLY HAVE A WINNER – NOW YOU CANCELL IT? WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU ?
I absolutely adored Perception, and would’ve watched it for many seasons.
Perception has been one of my favorite programs. Showing mental illness in a different light from the crazy lunatics they are usually seen as, and showing the lead character as a basically good guy and not someone to be afraid of, was a very unbiased and positive portrayal of someone with paranoid schyzophrenia. I was very disappointed this show was cancelled. I hope it will find another home and the series will continue.
What a shame that Perception got canceled … It was so clever and well acted… I can assure you that all of these so called “edgier” shows are not going to be anywhere near as good. Eric McCormack and Levar Burton were wonderful. With all of the other junk on tv what a farce that something like Perception would be canceled !!!!
So disappointed that Perception is cancelled…what was wrong with it? Wonder if they’ll put some fake ‘reality’ show or some raunchy comedy in it’s place? Junk…that’s all that’s on TNT…junk.
One of the beSt shows on tv. Would watch it on any channel
I thought this was a very original show, and watched it regularly. However, over time, Perception seemed to become a liberal/progressive/leftist mouthpiece. as if it had been taken over by Aaron Sorkin, of ‘The Newsroom’ fame. I think that was the show’s downfall. many people stopped watching it for the same reason they stopped watching The Newsroom. I think people just don’t like being beat up by their favorite shows.
OMG, you cons see conspiracies in everything. I totally disagree with your imagination concerning the political agenda of perception….where did you even ‘perceive’ it? The Newsroom, though, definitely had a progressive slant..
