NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!! Come on NBC! This cast had that magical chemistry with each other that is never seen in shows this new. I was so looking forward to watching them for seasons to come………bring it back and give it another chance!!!!!
Personally, I think that Perfect Couples needs another chance. Yes, the first couple of episodes were not that funny, but now that I’m watching it on OnDemand its hilarious. The characters grow on you and when you’re in a relationship with someone, Perfect Couples definitely shows the ups and downs in the most hilarious ways. My Fiance and I LOVE watching this show. Come on people, it’s like any other business out there. You don’t get major profits from it right away, it takes time. The Office wasn’t funny when it first started, and look at it now. Neither was… Read more »
Keep Perfect Couples! Boo Paul Reiser!
I cannot believe this is happening. My wife and I love Perfect Couples. I actually laughed out loud during separate episodes and as much as I love the Office that hasn’t happened for a while. How can this be canceled and Outsourced is still on the air. That show is god awful. We tried to watch the first 15 minutes of The Paul Reiser show but it just didn’t worked, relying on a Larry David cameo was weak. Perfect Couples needs to be brought back. I felt like it was a breath of fresh air among great shows on their… Read more »
This is show is awesome and refreshing. My husband and I look forward to it every week. The characters are more relatable than on any other sitcom. We will be disappointed if it’s cancelled. Too bad it had to compete with American Idol. As much as we love Perfect Couples, we’ve been watching it through Hulu. Hate to admit our guilty pleasure of watching Idol… I’d far rather that show be cancelled over Perfect Couples. Hope the network gives it a second chance and a new time slot. The actor who plays Dave was in another great sitcom called the… Read more »
Yet another blown call by the NBC execs. One of my wife and my favorite shows. Guess the tv viewers are only interested in seeing gaunt pathetic people try to “survive” in places where natives live and breathe daily. This (perfect couples) is an original comedy with some unique characters in it. If they don’t bring it back its a sad day for NBC.
Perfect Couples is an awesome show! Give it some time and a little promotion. Paul Rieser is creepy, how can you cancel hotties like Olivia Munn for him?
Perfect Couples sucked, it deserves to be cancelled. This Paul Riser show doesnt look any better though.
I found it on demand and LOVE it!!
I can’t believe that they have canceled Perfect Couples. It is an hilarious show – how can we get it back on the air. I love Olivia Munn’s character!
paul rieser is awful, bring back perfect couples! 6 likable people trump one unlikable guy
found a show where we spend time re-counting the lines, during the half-hour after the show’s over, and laughing just as hard…again. We didn’t discover it until browsing ‘On Demand’ so we weren’t good fans until too late. We visited NBC.com to see when it airs so we can catch it on its day/time and are disappointed to discover that it might be cancelled. Don’t know which shows make it these days, but think this is one that should.
Alright, I understand that ratings are king. That being said, this show was never given a chance. Instead of creating a decent campaign to promote the show, NBC tried to cram Outsourced promos down viewer’s throats to try to save that sinking ship. It is what is. I personally liked the show and thought it had a lot of potential to be a great comedy. Yes the characters needed to be developed a bit further, but I feel a shows writing staff really doesn’t come into their own until the first half of the second season. Parks and Rec for… Read more »
