NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
BRING US SEASON 2!!! I liked the ending of the series, but ONLY if there is going to be a season 2! WAY to many unanswered questions!!! LOVED IT but want MORE!
season II has to happen. this is one of the best shows i’ve watched in a LONG time. the plot is exciting, confusing, and engaging. i cant believe people dont watch this show. they dont know what they are missing. i honestly watched every show on hulu because i wasnt able to watch it when it was on tv. they have to advertise this too. its such a great show. i sure hope it makes it to season two.
Okay, So i just watched the series finale to this show and I was beyond mad that thats how they decided to end it. I do think if NBC doesn’t pick up another season that some other channel should. For one thing NBC never promoted this show too much, not like they have The Event! Maybe thats why it had low ratings. But I think NBC will be stupid not to pick up another season, maybe promote it a little more this time.
I really enjoyed the first season. I’d love to see it continue.
I am still wondering why Persons Unknown was promoted as a summer mini series. We were promised that all would be revealed in the last episodes. But now I have just as many or maybe more questions than I had at the beginning. I sure hope they are having a second season to at least give us all the answers or I will not be wanting to watch any more NBC mini series.
BRING IT BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON NBC…I’m sick of seeing cop, lawyer, and csi shows. Give us this show, something different, just this once. Please.
Lets have a season 2! great show!! i want more!!
I would love to see a second season. It wrapped up OK for a mini series, but left me wanting to know more about “The Program” and the people behind it. What is Level 2?
Absolutely would love to second season. Will probably boycott any new NBC shows if they do not plan a second season. They did not answer many questions with the final episode and I’m hooked.
give us season 2
I can’t believe the comments I’m reading! PU is BAD fiction. Illogical, shallow. I only kept watching it because it beat studying. I’d be insulted if they brought a second season when so many good shows have been canceled.
I would love to see a season two, if, for no other reason, to actually have all the questions answered. The first season was great, and I wish more people had watched it. Although I loved it by the end, the first several weeks were not outstanding. That may be why the following was poor. Please, the Powers That Be, let it return and I promise to bring at least a half dozen friends on board.
in all honesty, i am way more confused than i was satisfied with the finale. it seemed much more like a cliffhanger than a closing episode in my opinion. if they don’t make a new season, i won’t be recommending this so called “mini-series” to any of my friends. i really want to know what’s going to happen to cat and the ambassador, they can’t just put them in that prison thing and not expand upon it at all! but of course, if nbc decides not to keep going with this intriguing series, it won’t be the first time they’ve… Read more »
Would LOVE to see a Season 2! Definitely has potential for a fascinating continuation – want to learn more about the back story between Janets mom and Ellie… Sort of an X-Files meets Lost feel -LOVE IT !! WANT MORE!!
I really enjoyed this summer mini-series and feel like there should be more to the show. It really didn’t have an end, like it promised to extend this series. Let’s have more of it. I thought it was great!!
