It’s 2009 all over again. The Prison Break TV show has been cancelled by FOX. Again. Although the network revived the crime drama for a limited fifth season, there will be no season six, at least not in the near future. FOX CEO Gary Newman did tell Deadline the network is open to future installments, however. Newman noted that, if the producers “came back” with an idea for another season down the line, the network could be open to it.
An action thriller, Prison Break stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Mark Feuerstein, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar, Paul Adelstein, Augustus Prew, Rick Yune, and Inbar Lavi.
The FOX TV series revolves around Michael Scofield (Miller), who vowed to help his brother Lincoln Burrows (Purcell), escape from death row.
Prison Break: A Look at the Ratings
The fifth season of Prison Break averaged a 1.03 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.82 million viewers. It landed near the middle of the pack, among FOX TV shows where its demo is concerned, and in the lower third, in terms of total audience size.
Although they wrote the revival as a single season story, the writers had said additional seasons were possible. Apparently, the mediocre ratings did not tempt the network to order more for the 2017-18 season.

im very disappointed “Prison Break” was cancelled i look forward to watching this show every week not once have missed an episode since the show first aired and now im very upset that fox brought “Prison Break” back for season 5 because they got my hopes up of this show coming back for a few more seasons and i was looking forward to watching a few more seasons of “Prison Break”

I’m shocked that Fox network would cancel such a good show. I look forward to watching each and every show. The networks should take into account older folks like me love watching TV just as much as the younger folks. If we have to wait another 5 years I’ll be so sad. Hope Netflix or another network picks up the show if Fox doesn’t reconsider cancelling this show. It is an intelligent, well-written show with wonderful actors.
This is the best show how can they cancel the series? People were just now realizing it was back.
So disappointed,,,I had heard such great things about the show when it was on before but never got a chance to watch. I have binged watched all 4 prior seasons to get caught up and absolutely loved it! Now that I’m hooked, it’s cancelled again. This was really the only show I watch on FOX. Really hope another network picks it up.
How do they determine the real audience? Do they count those of us who DVR the show to watch when we can if we can’t watch during actual broadcast time? Our family watches every episode but not all at the same time! We think Fox should reconsider this and put it in the “to be determined” column. Don’t cancel!
This is truly upsetting news. I have enjoyed this show and have watched each season twice thus far.
I really enjoy the way Michael faces each challenge. The way he strategically plans each break and gosh darn he is handsome and clever. Lincoln his so drawn to his brothers mastermind. As, he himself is the muscle man of the team. Sucre is undoubtedly the most loyal friend. He is great when it comes to talking his way out of something.
I really really really enjoy this show. PPPLease don’t cancel it.
Fox should uncancelled Prison Break. Like NBC did with Timeless.
WHAT!?!?!? This is absolutely horrible news. This show is by far my favorite TV show of all time! What is wrong with FOX????? They absolutely should have renewed this show for a season 6,7,8, etc. I do not think they promoted this show as much as they should have for their come back. If they promoted this come back more it may have opened the door for new viewers to watch the show and become die hard fans like the viewers of the first 4 seasons became. I loved this show!! What is wrong with the people at FOX?? Don’t they recognize a great show when they see it! I hope it comes back on another network next year!
This season has bordered on the absurd, so I am not surprised to see it go. For example:
Last week, they set off an explosion, the streets are littered with loaded weapons, yet no one bothers to pick one up, so when Cyclops shows up and is shooting at them, all they can do is scurry like rats.
Cyclops shoots a hole in the car’s radiator, yet rather than take the fuel from that car to the one that is still intact, Michael drives it into the desert. WHAT? When did Michael Schofield get so dumb?
That wad predictable. Most fans or viewers got the illegal copies without purchase the season on demands.
Wonder what these networks are going to do when this age becomes the old age…You have a show that I know is vastly popular on torrent sites so a lot of the younger people are watching. While the viewer #’s would be your older type adult watching. Definitely didn’t expect this show to be cancelled.
I think the next season should be them breaking Jack Bauer out of his Russian prison.
