It’s 2009 all over again. The Prison Break TV show has been cancelled by FOX. Again. Although the network revived the crime drama for a limited fifth season, there will be no season six, at least not in the near future. FOX CEO Gary Newman did tell Deadline the network is open to future installments, however. Newman noted that, if the producers “came back” with an idea for another season down the line, the network could be open to it.
An action thriller, Prison Break stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Mark Feuerstein, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar, Paul Adelstein, Augustus Prew, Rick Yune, and Inbar Lavi.
The FOX TV series revolves around Michael Scofield (Miller), who vowed to help his brother Lincoln Burrows (Purcell), escape from death row.
Prison Break: A Look at the Ratings
The fifth season of Prison Break averaged a 1.03 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.82 million viewers. It landed near the middle of the pack, among FOX TV shows where its demo is concerned, and in the lower third, in terms of total audience size.
Although they wrote the revival as a single season story, the writers had said additional seasons were possible. Apparently, the mediocre ratings did not tempt the network to order more for the 2017-18 season.

Season 6 fox has to do it. Prison break should of never been canceled the first time
Prison Break needs to come back for a sixth season! If not on Fox then on Netflix.
I am gonna boycot fox all together this one was of the all time best shows ever and to bring it back for one season then cancel it again is just so disappointing I’ll stick with Netflix or anything other than fox I can assure you that
FOX needs to renew Prison Break for additional seasons. I don’t think the ratings are a true representation of how popular the show is because people aren’t nexessarily tuning in on Tuesday nights. I binge watched seasons 1-4 on Netflix with no commercials, so I didn’t didn’t watch season 6 episodes when they aired. I waited until they were on the FOX app before I watched them so I could fast forward through the commercials. I know several people who are waiting to watch all of season 6 after the finale.
I have seen every single episode at least a dozen times and annoyingly can quote nearly any scene. The 9 episodes of season 5 meant the world to me. Cancelling the show now would be as grave a mistake as killing Michael at the end of season 4. Weather Fox sees the fans are there or not in the ratings, we really are here. We want more. The cast wants more. Prison Break is the only reason I watch the channel Fox, so without prison break I would not watch the network at all. Don’t cancel it give us season… Read more »
There just have to be more seasons. My husband got me watching the show on Netflix, because I had never seen it before. Watch season 1 through 4; and watched themy again when we heard season 5 was coming out. Due to very busy work schedules, rarely get to watch it live but do record to watch later…….PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW AGAIN……….AWESOME SHOW, AND THE AUDIENCES WANT MORE 🙂
My fiance and I started watching Prison Break on Netflix. Usually, we only watched shows that were available “over the air” or on Netflix, and we had previously refused to pay for cable, even to watch our favorite sports. When we heard that a new season was being released, we literally ordered cable just to be able to watch it. Admittedly, the first episode started a little slow, but week after week, we were drawn in and couldn’t wait to see the next episode. Also, why do seasons 1 & 2 have 22 episodes, season 3 got only 13, season 4 has 23, and it looks like season 5 will only have 9? WTF?
John. Season 3 was short because of the writer’s strike. Season 4 had a stand alone release after the season ended called “The Final Break.”
I wish the executives at FOX would get their heads out of their ass and see that the fans LOVE this show, and can’t get enough of itt. I wish they’d keep their paws off the cancel button when it comes to Prison Break. Let us enjoy it hassle free, without worrying if it will be cancelled… again! Great show but some of the recurring characters were, imho, under-utilised. Season 6 should be green-lighted and allow the writers and actors to showcase the talent they have displayed through-out the seasons.
Yes I agree with the fans who’d appreciate more seasons. I never watched the show until Netflix & was also hooked. Wentworth Miller is the one I fell in love with. I don’t really watch a lot of tv & if there’s a show I like I either tape it or try to watch it on Netflix. This idea of networks & ratings is very unfair. Not because the shows aren’t being watched live doesn’t mean there aren’t genuine fans wanting to watch. So yessss I think Prison Break should come back!!
